Police Crack Down on Notorious Kidnapping Ring in Yobe

DAMATURU — The Yobe State Police Command has achieved a major advancement in their fight against criminal activities by apprehending two prominent kidnapping suspects: Babaro Baushe and Umaru Dau'a.

The two individuals, who are 40 years old and 25 years old respectively, were arrested by the Dapachi Divisional Police Headquarters around 5:00 AM on April 9, 2025. Four Sentenced for Brutal Killing of Taxi Passenger

Four individuals have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in the "cruel and appalling" murder of a man who was stabbed through the window of a cab in East London.

Anselam Senaj, who was 26 years old, died after the taxi he was riding in was abruptly halted by a silver Mitsubishi in Newham on November 11, 2023.

Mohammad Saqib Khan, aged 24 and hailing from Enfield, was convicted of murder after being identified as the one who dealt the lethal blow. The court at Old Bailey heard this information. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a mandatory minimum of 26 years behind bars.

Muhammad Samiyul Miah received a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years for murder. Zain Ali was sentenced to 14 years in prison for manslaughter, and Ibrahim Naim was handed a 10-year and six-month jail term also for manslaughter.

When sentencing them, Judge Judy Khan KC characterized the killing as a "cold and appalling assault" carried out in an open public space, indicating that it was "well-thought-out and pre-planned."

Elderly Man Injured by Relative After Being Trapped in Home for 90 Years

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) — According to the Laredo Police Department, an older gentleman was attacked and improperly confined by a relative at a residence located on the 1000 block of East Okane Street.

Police were dispatched to the location on Thursday, April 10, shortly after 3:30 pm, after receiving a report about the event. The alleged perpetrator, recognized as 56-year-old Humberto Cantu, was said to have left the area prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

The police talked to the 90-year-old victim, who stated that Cantu—a family member—shoved him, threatened to smash windows if law enforcement was contacted, and held him back forcefully, causing harm. Additionally, the victim informed the authorities that when he tried to dial 9-1-1, Cantu took out the battery from his phone and confined him within the house.

Around 5 p.m., law enforcement personnel revisited the residence once Cantu had returned and allegedly kept behaving confrontationally.

Cantu got arrested and faced charges for:

  • Aggravated Assault Resulting in Harm to an Older Relative Involved in Domestic Abuse
  • Unlawful Restraint

German Military Worker Sentenced for Downloading Child Porn in Northern Virginia

RESTON, Va. ( DC News Now — A technician working for the German military received a sentence this Wednesday for downloading child sexual abuse material (CSAM) when they were posted in Northern Virginia.

Peter Markus Kuttke, aged 49, admitted guilt for receiving child sexual abuse material on January 8th.

Kuttke was a German citizen residing in Reston when federal agents conducted a search of his home on December 1, 2023. He was employed at the time as an IT professional for the German military’s presence in Northern Virginia, USA.

Federal authorities discovered multiple electronic devices containing a large number of CSAM videos and images, as stated in the report. U.S. Attorney’s Office (USA) He had obtained CSAM from BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file-sharing platform.

The Supreme Court states that the Trump administration has to assist in bringing back a deported individual from Maryland.

A significant number of these videos featured adults engaging in sexual abuse against children who had not yet reached puberty.

As stated in legal papers, Kuttke had stored more than 200 video files and over 300 image files containing child pornography on his computer.

On April 10, he was ordered to serve a six-and-a half-year sentence in prison for downloading child sexual abuse material.

NJ Councilman Among 39 Charged in Gambling Probe Tied to Crime Family

Thirty-nine individuals, including one from Passaic County, councilman State authorities announced on Friday that several individuals have faced charges related to their involvement in an illicit gambling scheme in North Jersey, which amassed $3 million in unlawful proceeds.

"Romanticized versions of organized crime have been the subject of countless movies and television shows, often set right here in the Garden State," Platkin said. "But the reality isn’t romantic or cinematic. It’s about breaking the laws the rest of us follow and, ultimately, it’s about money, control and the threat of violence."

Platkin's announcement comes two days after law enforcement officials executed search warrants at a dozen locations throughout North Jersey, including poker clubs in Totowa, Garfield, and Woodland Park. Among those arrested were Anand Shah, 42, a Prospect Park borough councilman.

According to Platkin, the gambling scheme involved managers tasked with supervising operations and receiving a share of the profits. The members of this illegal organization subsequently transferred the earnings through various dummy companies to hide their finances.

"What you're looking at here isn’t just some casual neighborhood bet,” stated Theresa Hilton, head of the Division of Criminal Justice. “Instead, this is a meticulously organized and extremely lucrative illegal operation led by individuals who thought they could operate outside the bounds of the law. But they were mistaken.”

This week, law enforcement apprehended 37 suspects, and two additional out-of-state residents are expected to be taken into custody soon, according to Hilton.

On December 14, 2022, the nursery was shut down by Ofsted alongside several connected facilities due to concerns from the regulatory body about potential risks to children’s safety, which led to the suspension of its license.

Initially, six women were taken into custody as part of the probe following Noah's death.

The police stated that the additional four individuals who were taken into custody will not be subject to any further legal proceedings.

Malcolm McHaffie, who leads the Crown Prosecution Service’s specialized unit, stated, "After examining the evidence submitted by the West Midlands Police, we have approved the pressing of criminal charges related to the death of a 14-month-old infant at a nursery in Dudley."

The raids occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at homes located on the 1100 block of Haven Drive and the 2200 block of Thompson Drive in Junction City.

Members of the Junction City Police Department and Geary County Sheriff’s Office carried out search warrants at residential properties.

The authorities stated that these arrest warrants marked the end result of a months-long drug probe.

Dothan Resident Allegedly Lost $1.5 Million to Scammers, Police Reveal

Raids Expose Fake Goods and Arrests at Barbershops

Counterfeit items have been confiscated, and several people were taken into custody following raids on barbershops throughout southwest England.

In Gloucestershire, authorities apprehended five individuals following operations conducted at 11 locations by various law enforcement agencies. Over 130 counterfeit designer bags were confiscated in Bristol.

This operation is part of a three-week national anti-money laundering initiative by the National Crime Agency (NCA) known as Operation Machinize .

“Activities such as these aim to convey a strong message that our high streets should not be used as hiding spots in public view,” stated Detective Sergeant Adrian Bray from the South West Regional Organized Crime Unit (SWROCU).

In an operation, law enforcement apprehended a 40-year-old male suspected of fraud following raids at two barbershops located on Barton Street in Gloucester. The individual has since been freed from custody but remains subject to bail conditions as the inquiry continues.

A second individual was detained due to violations of immigration laws at a location where Trading Standards officials confiscated illicit cigarettes and vaping devices.

A 24-year-old individual from Gloucester was taken into custody for suspected burglary and possession of methamphetamine. The charges against him have now been updated to include theft.

Two individuals, one 33 years old and another 18 years old, both from Gloucester, were taken into custody for suspected drug supply, specifically concerning cocaine and cannabis.

The teenager who is 18 years old has now faced charges for possessing with the intention to supply, whereas the individual aged 33 was let go pending further investigation.

'Cash-intensive businesses'

The SWROCU mentioned that they had inspected a total of 16 locations throughout the southwest region of England.

In Bournemouth, an employee was found to be working illegally at one premises and vapes were being sold illegally at another.

Premises were also visited in Swindon, Poole, Teignmouth, Saltash, Barnstaple and Braunton, they said.

"Suspects frequently utilize barbershops along with other cash-heavy enterprises such as vape stores, nail salons, American-style candy shops, and car washes for money laundering activities," stated Detective Sergeant Bray.

"Their aim is to mix legitimate funds and criminal profits to hinder investigations into their criminality.

"We know they are also adept at exploiting vulnerable people to work in their businesses."

A woman from Long Island, who allegedly operated a drug marketplace named "MamaKnowsBrown" on the dark web, is one of 21 individuals charged in a significant narcotics smuggling operation uncovered by Suffolk County authorities. The indictment involves members of the Bloods gang as well as a family-operated criminal network, according to an announcement made by District Attorney Raymond Tierney on Friday, April 11, 2025.

Carolyn Tolin, aged 46 and from Centereach, is accused of sending heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and powdered cocaine to buyers in 40 different states. DA Outraged Over Parole for Man Who Killed South Shore Teen in 1967

Timothy J. Cruz, the Plymouth District Attorney, expresses his "outrage" over the decision to grant parole to a man who killed a 15-year-old girl in Hingham back in 1967.

Fathers Jailed After Violent Home Invasion While Baby Slept Unharmed

Two individuals have been incarcerated after they broke into a residence and threatened the residents at knifepoint while an infant was sleeping upstairs.

Colin Brown, aged 36, who resides on Stanway Road in Coney Hill, along with Craig Wood, 33, from Portreath Way in Kingsway, received their sentences at Gloucester Crown Court on March 27th.

Wearing balaclavas and carrying a crowbar and serrated knife, the two individuals burst into a home in the Mount Pleasant district of Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Wood received a five-year prison sentence whereas Brown was given an 11-year jail term because of his prior offenses related to burglary and a serious driving violation.

The court was informed that the men reached the location just before 2:50 PM GMT on January 8th.

The video from the doorbell camera revealed that Brown and Wood were trying to break into the main entrance of the property. When a man inside confronted them, Wood threatened to shoot him and instructed Brown to "call the shooter."

Suspect Denies Connection: Rachel Morin Murder Trial Begins

The trial of Victor Martinez-Hernandez, who is charged with the rape and murder of Rachel Morin, reached its eighth day on Friday.

To kick off the trial, Chief Detective of Harford County, Phil Golden, was called to testify.

During the court proceedings, a recording was shown featuring Golden interrogating Martinez-Hernandez via a Spanish translator. The footage depicts Martinez-Hernandez dressed in a striped prison jumpsuit.

In that interview, Martinez-Hernandez first claimed he had never been to Maryland or met Rachel Morin.

When questioned by Golden about whether there was any possibility he was in the state without being aware of it, Martinez-Hernandez reaffirmed his denial.

During that part of the interview, Golden shares an image captured by Martinez-Hernandez along with his cousin, Tania Hernandez, sometime during the holiday season.

On Thursday, Tania provided testimony stating that her cousin remained at their house in Alexandria, Virginia, with her and her spouse.

During the interview video featuring Golden, Martinez-Hernandez initially tries to claim he knows nothing about the photograph. However, he later acknowledges that it is indeed a picture of himself.

When Golden questions Martinez-Hernandez about finding his DNA at the crime scene, the suspect proposes that another individual could have tampered with the evidence.

"Nobody has the same DNA as another person," Golden can be heard saying to the suspect during the interview footage.

"Ignorant of how it ended up there, he reasoned that if anyone harbored ill will towards him, they might have obtained his DNA and placed it intentionally," Golden recounted in his testimony on Friday.

It is still uncertain what DNA evidence was discovered and where it was found.

To challenge Martinez-Hernandez’s account without disclosing the location of the DNA evidence, the prosecution queried Golden with, “Could the type of DNA have potentially been transferred?”

"I suppose it could be true," Golden stated under oath.

"Were you referring to an item that might have been misplaced?" the prosecutor questioned.

"No," Golden replied.

As the interrogation video went on, Golden queried Martinez-Hernandez about whether he had ever hurt a woman or committed murder, to which he replied in the negative.

“I have not committed any wrongdoing,” Martinez-Hernandez stated.

The video proceeds with Golden inquiring about Martinez-Hernandez's cousin, Jose Hernandez, who stated on Thursday that they resided together at his residence in Temple Hills for approximately five months. Before Victor departed suddenly in May 2024.

Martinez-Hernandez informed Golden that he did not reach out to his cousin and has never visited his house.

Martinez-Hernandez verified his location in Oklahoma, a lead that investigators followed.
