A woman from Long Island, who allegedly operated a drug marketplace named "MamaKnowsBrown" on the dark web, is one of 21 individuals charged in a significant narcotics smuggling operation uncovered by Suffolk County authorities. The indictment involves members of the Bloods gang as well as a family-operated criminal network, according to an announcement made by District Attorney Raymond Tierney on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Carolyn Tolin, aged 46 and from Centereach, is accused of sending heroin, fentanyl, crack cocaine, and powdered cocaine to buyers in 40 different states. According to prosecutors, she ran her illegal business through a dark web store based out of her home’s garage and accepted payment via cryptocurrencies.
Tolin was among multiple alleged traffickers provided by Larell Campbell, aged 32 from Copiague, and Carlos Torres, aged 42 from Bay Shore. According to authorities, Campbell’s purported criminal enterprise was predominantly managed by members of his own family, which included his mother, brothers, girlfriend, and sister-in-law. These individuals allegedly assisted in transporting lethal drugs across Suffolk and Nassau counties.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Fentanyl Task Force, responsible for conducting the extensive investigation, carried out more than 100 search warrants targeting cars, cellphones, residences, and computer systems, along with countless hours of monitoring activities. Law enforcement officials reportedly seized approximately two kilograms of cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of a mixture containing both heroin and fentanyl, as well as an additional 250 grams of pure fentanyl.
Campbell and Tolin have been accused of operating as major traffickers and could be sentenced to between 25 years to life in prison. Each is currently being detained on a bond set at $1 million in cash.
According to investigators, Tolin’s store called “MamaKnowsBrown” provided different drug packages where purchasers could add more fentanyl or cocaine via an additional “Tip Jar.” Allegedly, each delivery came with warnings about potential overdoses, advising clients to be prepared with Narcan, and cautioning that these highly potent items were intended only for those who had extensive experience using drugs over a long period.
Out of the 21 charged defendants, numerous individuals face allegations related to gang affiliations or family relationships. Some have been taken into custody, whereas others are yet to be arraigned.
This operation is helping save lives," stated Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina. "We remain committed to going after those who traffic harmful substances for financial gain.
