Texas Law Enforcement Unravels Mystery of 'Cloned' GMC Trucks in Hays County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In a press release on Thursday, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have successfully retrieved four stolen trucks whose vehicle identification numbers (VINs) were duplicated.

VIN-cloned vehicles seem genuine since the VIN corresponds with a vehicle not listed as stolen," stated HCSO Deputy Bryant Cuadros in the statement. "These particular GMC Denalis were marked as stolen by the Dallas Police Department, the Houston Police Department, and an enforcement agency based in Connecticut.

The trucks were listed on Facebook Marketplace at prices well below their market value. Altogether, the four trucks had an estimated worth of $220,000, as reported by HCSO.

Cuadros stated in the announcement that the HCSO would continue investigating the thefts and urged individuals with relevant information to reach out to the agency via phone at 512-393-7800. Additionally, anonymous tip submissions from the community could be made through an available channel. Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-8477.

Mercedes Unveils Game-Changing Electric CLA: 492-Mile Range Redefines the Future in UK

The recently unveiled Mercedes-Benz CLA has taken the title of Europe’s longest-range and most efficient electric vehicle.

Set to arrive later this year, the base model CLA 250+ featuring EQ Technology promises an impressive range of up to 492 miles per charge according to Mercedes. If driven solely on highways, however, it should still achieve approximately 431 miles on a single charge.

Even though it still needs official approval, these numbers suggest that the CLA EV will outperform every other electric car currently available in the UK market. This even puts it ahead of Mercedes' top model, the EQS 450+, which offers an impressive range of 481 miles using a 118 kWh battery but comes with a hefty price tag of £112,610—approximately £70,000 more than what is anticipated for the base model of the CLA EV.

The impressive range can be attributed to Mercedes' work on reducing the CLA EV's energy use; it features an NMC battery with a capacity of only 85 kWh made from nickel-manganese-cobalt.

This indicates that the CLA EV boasts an efficiency rate above 5.0 miles per kilowatt-hour, a metric that numerous producers view as crucial for advancing electric vehicles to the next stage.

PUNCHY BUT FRUGAL

The remarkable range of the CLA EV can largely be attributed to its aerodynamic design. Despite being bigger than its predecessor across all dimensions—25 millimetres wider, 25 millimetres higher, and 30 millimetres longer—a significant amount of effort was dedicated to reducing its frontal profile and ensuring smooth airflow over its body.

For instance, the wheels are positioned more towards the inside of the wheel arches compared to its predecessor. The small intakes on the front bumper (with matching exits at the back) direct airflow smoothly around each corner, minimally disrupted by the sleek, flat surfaces of the alloy wheels.

The attempts yield a low drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.21, slightly higher than the EQS at 0.20 but better than the Tesla Model 3 with a Cd of 0.22.

The newly installed rear-facing permanent magnet motor in the CLA EV significantly enhances its efficiency. This model features an advanced silicon-carbide inverter, which delivers higher performance within a more compact design, thereby decreasing overall weight. According to the engineering team, the torque density has been increased thanks to the arrangement of the magnets in a dual V-configuration, which intensifies their magnetic field.

The motor also gets a Porsche Taycan-style two-speed gearbox, rather than the usual single-speed reduction gearing. This has a short (11:1) first ratio for improved off-the-mark acceleration and better efficiency at town speeds and a significantly longer (5:1) second ratio for less consumption at a cruise.

The engine generates 268 horsepower, enabling the CLA 250+ to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds.

The all-wheel-drive CLA 350 4Matic featuring EQ Technology includes an extra 107bhp engine paired with a single-speed transmission on the front axle, resulting in a total power output of 349bhp. This enhancement reduces its acceleration from zero to 62mph to just 4.9 seconds, outpacing the V8-powered C55 AMG from two decades past when it comes to speed in a straight line.

This additional motor is decoupled from the front axle when it isn’t needed, reducing energy losses to friction by 90%. This means the four-wheel-drive CLA EV can still manage 478 miles per charge – a smaller disparity compared with the rear-driven version than is typical of most other EVs.

Braking primarily relies on the motors’ regenerative effect (which can provide up to 200kW of stopping power), helping to keep the battery topped up.

The CLA EV can be rapid-charged at rates of up to 320kW, thanks to its 800V electrical architecture, allowing for a 186-mile top-up in just 10 minutes.

In addition to the 85kWh battery, a 58kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) pack will be added to the line- up shortly after launch.

This will almost certainly bring a significant price cut but also reduce the CLA EV’s range to around 300 miles.

can reveal that a hot AMG CLA 45 EV is inbound, too, with a pair of Yasa-developed axial flux motors providing more than 500bhp and a raft of extensive modifications aimed at bolstering its performance and dynamics.

ADVANCES IN COMBUSTION TOO

The new CLA will also be offered in hybrid form. Specifically designed to fit in the same space as the EV’s front motor, its powertrain pairs a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a small, 1.3kWh battery and a 27bhp electric motor. These combine to send either 134bhp or 161bhp through the front wheels or, in the range-topping 4Matic model, 188bhp to all four wheels.

Mercedes claims that the engine offers " diesel-like fuel efficiency," indicating an MPG figure well above 50.

In an effort towards equal pricing from Mercedes, CEO Ola Källenius has stated that the hybrid CLA model will now have a similar price tag as the CLA electric vehicle. These savings can be attributed to a reduction of approximately 30% in battery manufacturing costs, which consequently lowers the total expense of the electric version by about 15%.

With this in mind, the anticipated starting price is likely to fall within the £40,000 region. The electric vehicle version will hit the market initially, approximately in October, whereas the hybrid model will be launched several months after that.

Subscribing to the saloon lineup will be a fresh CLA Shooting Brake. Set to make an entrance into the British market in the initial months of the following year, this station wagon variant will offer both engine choices. Consequently, its debut is expected to occur during the September edition of the Munich Motor Show.

STAR-SPANGLED

For the first time, Mercedes will have the CLA hybrid and CLA EV looking nearly indistinguishable both internally and externally, while also sharing a model designation. The distinctive feature of the CLA hybrid is its classic open grille, which is essential for supplying cool air to the engine.

NEW-LOOK INTERIOR

Inside, the updated CLA adopts a sportier aesthetic compared to its more opulent siblings. For instance, the front seats feature prominent side bolsters, and there are bolder material selections like a mix of black and white Alcantara paired with artificial leather adorned with red stitching.

The dashboard features an updated version of Mercedes' Superscreen, which includes three digital screens spanning its full width. There’s a 10.25-inch display for the instrument cluster positioned in front of the driver, a central 14.6-inch screen for entertainment purposes, and an optional additional 14-inch screen for passengers sitting up front.

Thanks to Mercedes' newest MB.OS operating system, the displays can now be utilized for playing video games like Fortnite during travel or streaming TV shows and movies through Netflix and similar platforms.

The system also includes the newest version of Mercedes' virtual assistant, combining multiple AI functionalities (such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing) to deliver more precise responses to queries.

In cars without the Superscreen, the passenger screen will be replaced with a glass panel with LED-backlit star logos, which match the interior’s ambient lighting.

Boot space is rated at 405 litres, which is 55 litres down in the old CLA’s but, in a first for a modern Mercedes, the EV gets a frunk that adds another 101 litres of storage space.

I reckon the Audi Q3 It’s one of those impressively solid vehicles that deserves more attention from potential buyers.

Personally, I would opt for the SUV variant, specifically the entry-level 35 TFSI model. To my mind, this is the most appealing choice as it strikes an excellent balance between functionality and power, all at a reasonable price point.

When I got tossed the keys to the car Audi Q3 Sportback 40 TFSI S line - the priciest, seemingly least practical option within the lineup before you reach the higher tiers. RSQ3 region – I was not anticipating how much I would enjoy it.

However, I went ahead with it – it’s genuinely excellent, and allow me to share my thoughts in this review.

How does the interior of the Audi Q3 feel?

The phrase that continually comes to mind when discussing Audi’s interior design is 'technical elegance,' and once more, the company has successfully achieved this with their latest Q3 series.

While it may appear somewhat less ostentatious than its German counterparts, I personally enjoy the sleek finish throughout the dashboard, the sharp angular designs, and the vibrant yet straightforward displays.

The 10.1-inch touch screen entertainment system is user-friendly due to its straightforward menu design, along with support for both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionalities. Throughout my use of the vehicle, I encountered no difficulties when linking or disconnecting my smartphone from the system.

The sides lack physical buttons, and although there is a volume/tuning knob, it's located far beneath the climate control panel. I suppose having at least some form of tuning option is better than nothing.

When discussing the climate system, you'll find an intuitive set of climate controls and adjustments readily available. The heated seat functions also have their own dedicated buttons.

The 12.3-inch digital instrument panel offers clear and easy-to-use controls, complete with a navigational display option designed for individuals preferring to utilize the built-in GPS feature—featuring actual Google Maps images displayed directly before the driver.

The storage features include sturdy bottle holders in the door panels equipped with rubberized bottoms to prevent items from shifting. Additionally, there are cupholders located between the front seats, a built-in wireless phone charger, along with two USB-C ports situated in the same region. A compact center console bin can be found beneath the armrest as well.

The seats with leather trim provide excellent comfort; we completed several stretches over two hours without any issues – plus, both occupants can adjust their seating positions electronically.

Given the driver's seat adjusted to my height (I'm 182cm/6'0"), I have ample space to sit comfortably without my knees bumping into the rigid plastic-covered front seat. There’s also sufficient room for my toes. The best part about this being a coupe-styled car is that despite everything, I still have some headspace left above me.

My 6'4" brother-in-law didn't find it entirely agreeable, but we were aware of this beforehand.

The five-up test received some criticism regarding legroom, largely due to the impact of the transmission tunnel on rear seating area. Two people in the backseat? That’s manageable. Three? It starts to get cramped.

Nevertheless, during routine tasks when I installed my granddaughter's car seat (as there are two ISOFIX anchorages available in the rear windows and three top tether anchors), it turned out to be an ideal fit.

Passengers in the rear get directional air vents, two mesh pockets for maps or accessories, door-mounted bottle holders, a fold-down armrest complete with cupholders, and even a couple of USB-C ports for keeping devices charged.

Audi states that the trunk capacity of the Q3 Sportback matches that of the regular SUV; however, this measurement is taken up to the cargo cover. Despite this, it offers ample storage room. 530 litres of capacity.

Should you attempt to fit longer items, you may hit the capacity boundaries of the loading space. However, it is certainly spacious enough to accommodate all the baggage for a family of three on a short trip without issue.

It's fantastic to observe the adaptable boot floor – you have the option to drop it down for additional room or maintain it at a higher level to create a seamless loading area across the folding rear seats.

It includes a compact spare tire that doubles as housing for a subwoofer. Smartly, there are barriers along the edge of the trunk area ensuring the floor panel remains upright when you're reaching into the under-floor storage.

Additionally, the boot area features storage compartments on both sides; one includes a 12-volt socket, and the other houses a first aid kit.

What’s under the bonnet?

Unlike other models in the Audi lineup, the Q3 series has not yet received an update to include 48-volt mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology. Consequently, it continues to use the same engine options that were available when it was first introduced.

What is the driving experience like with the Audi Q3?

Before sharing my thoughts on the 40 TFSI variant of the Q3, let me first mention that if I were purchasing one of these SUVs, I'd probably opt for the base model 35 TFSI engine instead.

I don’t require all-wheel drive, and I appreciate how the smaller engine’s free-revving characteristic offers a somewhat more engaging driving experience. It also gives the car a lighter feeling at the front end.

As mentioned, the 40 TFSI quattro variant offers greater power and agility in its handling; thus, one might opt for this version knowing they will value the all-wheel-drive capability and smoother operation.

I contend that it isn’t fully zippy enough to qualify as a true sports SUV, yet it possesses sufficient power to glide through most scenarios effortlessly. Indeed, it becomes rather lively when you press the accelerator, particularly in Dynamic driving mode, and with Sports gear selection enabled.

That being said, it might just be the only SUV someone would truly require if they're considering this type of vehicle. However, I get the sense that it appears quicker than it actually performs.

The quattro all-wheel-drive system excels at helping you accelerate through turns, and the steering has a smooth, consistent feel, resulting in an enjoyable driving experience.

The suspension performs well even when fitted with 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires — whether you're cruising through the city or traveling long distances on the freeway, it remains generally smooth and stable. However, encountering sharp-edged bumps might cause some roughness in the ride quality.

I also put the quattro all-wheel drive through its paces on an uneven surface when I served as the designated driver for a wedding in rural New South Wales. Additionally, I navigated a rough stretch near Goulburn. The vehicle cruised smoothly despite carrying five adult passengers, offering excellent stability. However, it’s worth noting that the front-wheel-drive 35 TFSI could likely manage such conditions just fine.

However, some aspects of the driving experience fall short when it comes to refinement.

Inside, the car can be noisy over rough chip-sealed roads, and at low speeds, you may notice the sounds of the drivetrain when changing gears between reverse and drive while maneuvering in tight spaces. Many other SUVs, whether luxury or otherwise, tend to isolate you better from these kinds of disturbances.

There is also considerable road noise observed across various road types, along with significant wind noise. Keep in mind that this vehicle costs around $75k as an SUV; however, it may not exude the same level of refinement found in other $75k SUV models such as the Lexus NX , for instance.

Promenade Étonnante avec l'Audi A5 : La Succession surprenante à l'A4

Actuellement, Audi ne simplifie pas notre travail à cause de ses nouvelles classifications. Par exemple, l'Audi A4 a été renommée en A5 avec le nouveau modèle. Bien que sa silhouette reste fidèle aux précédentes versions, elle a subi une refonte complète. Nous avons souhaité essayer cette berline chez elle, c'est-à-dire en Allemagne.

En Allemagne, certaines routes permettent de conduire à des vitesses interdites dans la plupart des pays. Cela offre un excellent cadre pour tester la sensation de pilotage de l'Audi A5 dotée d'un petit moteur essence 2.0 TFSI développant 150 chevaux. Le remplaçant de l'A4 ne se contente pas d'avoir été numériquement mis à jour ; sa berline ainsi que le break Avant bénéficient également d'une toute nouvelle structure. L'opération de modernisation a allongé la voiture de 5,7 centimètres et augmenté son empattement de 6,8 centimètres, offrant plus d'espace aux passagers situés à l'arrière durant notre voyage en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie jusqu'à Wuppertal et le Haut-Berg. Toutefois, ces mêmes personnes n'étaient guère enchantées par les haut-parleurs placés près des portières, car cela rendait difficile l'écoute de la musique lorsque la cadence accélérée perturbait leur écoute, même si l'intérieur était bien isolé grâce au choix facultatif du verre antibruit.

Autobahn

Et précisément, lorsque l'Autostrada s'est étalonnée devant nous, il est devenu envisageable de faire fonctionner le moteur à quatre cylindres avec turbocompresseur à géométrie-variable couplé à une transmission robotisée S-Tronic à sept vitesses. À peine franchie la frontière, appuyer brusquement sur l'accélérateur était accompagné d'un rugissement caractéristique qui montrait clairement qu'il n'était pas question ici d'une assistance hybride. Il s'agissait bel et bien d'un 100% essence brut. Avec ses 150 chevaux sous le capot, l'A5 n'a pas vraiment fait voler l'autoroute atteignant les 100km/h en 9,8 secondes environ. Par conséquent, notre vitesse moyenne n'a jamais réellement excédé les 170km/h en raison du manque de puissance pour accélérer rapidement ainsi que du besoin constant d'avoir beaucoup de place libre sur la voie. Même si durant cette journée dominicale nous avons peu croisé de poids-lourds, nous devions fréquemment modérer notre allure compte tenu des limites de vitesse souvent fixées - principalement autour des nombreux travaux routiers - mais aussi afin de respecter poliment les autres conducteurs se trouvant également sur la route.

Phares sur la porte

Fermement plantée sur ses roues en configuration dynamique, l'A5 subit encore quelques soubassements dus aux imperfections du revêtement routier allemand moins parfait que prévu. En mode Confort, ces désagréments sont atténués, mais j'ai opté plutôt pour le réglage Individuel afin de personnaliser davantage le véhicule selon mes préférences personnelles. Cette fonction me donne également la possibilité de sélectionner le style des informations affichées sur le tableau de bord numérique. La version testée manquait heureusement de l'afficheur tête haute disponible en supplément. Le poste de pilotage arbore deux écrans tactiles, nécessaires pour assurer le confort et gérer les systèmes multimédia. Il n'y a aucun bouton physique sur le volant ; par conséquent, toucher accidentellement le plateau de commande peut déclencher certaine action involontaire. Curieusement, Audi a décidé de placer le contrôle des phares... sur la porte avant. Cela inclut également ceux anti-brouillards. Une idée originale sans doute, mais assez inhabituelle. Sur cette même console latérale, on trouve néanmoins un dispositif utile : il permet de rabattre le miroir extérieur gauche pour éviter toute rayure pendant les manœuvres stationnement. Pour contrôler le limiteur/accélérateur automatique quant à lui, une simple molette classique située sur la partie inférieure-gauche du volant suffit amplement.

En suspension

Le passage à Wuppertal nous a permis de voir le célèbre métro suspendu Schwabenbahn qui traverse la ville depuis plus d'un siècle. Le voyage dans ces wagons modernes est très agréable, surtout quand on voit tout défiler sous nos yeux comme une scène animée. Comparativement aux routes classiques, c'est beaucoup moins sec. Une fois notre visite terminée, nous avons repris la direction des terres environnantes. Dans les virages étroits où il est possible d'accélérer jusqu'à 100km/h (malgré l'interdiction générale fixée désormais à 70km/h lorsqu'il s'agit de prendre certaines courbes), l'Audi démontre toute son agilité. Elle prend chaque tournant avec précision grâce à ses systèmes perfectionnés. Lorsque je passe en mode manuel, j'utilise les palettes derrière le volant pour changer rapidement de rapport, particulièrement utile lorsque vous devez accélérer après un virage serré ou monter une pente raide. Pour descendre une colline, utiliser le frein moteur offre également un contrôle supplémentaire. Les différentes assistances à la conduite fonctionnent assez discrètement sans trop alarmer le conducteur. Seul problème : l'avertisseur de dépassement automatiquement activé par le système européen de navigation et radar routier. Heureusement, en ajustant convenablement le bouton "* " situé sur le côté du volant, cet alarme peut être facilement désactivé. Bien sûr, elle ne donne pas vraiment l'impression d'une véritable expérience sportive étant donné sa puissance limitée de seulement 110kW mais compte-tenu de son faible poids - 1620kg -, elle reste agile et dynamique malgré tout.

Griefs et satisfactions

À bord, l'absence de vide-poches ainsi qu'un espace de stockage moins spacieux pourrait se faire sentir. De plus, cette bande de plastique noir sur la console centrale fait également tache. Pourquoi ? En effet, en choisissant certaines options, une portion de ce revêtement peut être substituée par un troisième écran dédié au passager. Cependant, ce ne fut pas notre cas avec cet exemplaire particulier. Surtout que malgré son élégance, l'intérieur entièrement noir du pack Luxury donne finalement une impression plutôt terne. Les quelques jeux de lumière d'ambiance réglables ne suffisent pas non plus à apporter une grande excitation. Par contre, il convient de souligner que le chargeur sans fil s'est avéré très efficace : le téléphone était bien maintenu et stabilisé dans sa "box" spécifique. Quant au port USB-C, il supporte des clés mémoire MP3 de forte capacité. Toutefois, la lecture aléatoire semble avoir tendance à reproduire fréquemment certains titres musicaux. À contrario, lorsque Spotify était utilisé via Android Auto, tout fonctionna correctement.

Budget

Avant d'aborder le coût total, parlons un peu plus des performances de consommation lors de notre voyage. Avec une utilisation intensive sur les autoroutes allemandes où il n'y a pas de limite de vitesse, la consommation moyenne pour nos 700 kilomètres s'est élevée à 7,6 litres aux 100 kilomètres, dont environ 400 kilomètres ont été effectués dans ce pays frontalier. Si nous avions maintenu cette distance en Belgique ou aux Pays-Bas, nous auraient réussi à atteindre presque exactement la valeur officiellement annoncée par le constructeur qui est de 6,6 litres aux 100 kilomètres. Comme c'est souvent le cas pour tout véhicule fonctionnant uniquement à essence, son appétence pour le carburant dépendra principalement de votre façon de piloter ainsi que du profil typologique de vos trajets. L'économie de carburant ne sera possible qu'en adoptant une conduite prévoyante en milieu urbain et évitant de pousser trop fort sur l'autoroute.

L'Audi A5 1.5 TFSI 110 kW est disponible dès 40.950 € en Belgique. Pour notre version testée dans sa finition Advance, le tarif minimal atteint 42.350 €. Cependant, compte tenu des divers packs et options disponibles, ainsi que certaines additions non prévues, le coût total peut grimper jusqu'à plus de 54.500 €, incluant une surcharge de 6.000 € pour le pack business. En France, ce même véhicule commence à 45.500 € si vous souhaitez disposer du même niveau d'équipement, y compris la caméra de recul et la "phone box", il faudra dépenser au-delà de 52.000 €. "Highly awaited" is a term frequently thrown around, yet I genuinely cannot recall ever being this excited to slide into the driver's seat of a new vehicle. Renault 5 E-Tech Electric , known in full, was initially conceived in 2021 as an updated version of the French company’s compact car designed for the masses. Those familiar with it might recognize it under the nickname Le Car; others may have forgotten about it entirely. Enthusiasts, however, could recall the high-performance variant. Renault 5 Turbo instead.

Regardless, Renault’s initial hatchback evolved into an iconic model that combined cost-effectiveness with functionality and sleek styling. This internal combustion engine vehicle remained available for almost 25 years and seemed ubiquitous across European highways. Reviving this design exclusively as an electric car now is touching many individuals in our region quite deeply.

Even though nostalgia can be powerful, the limited electric vehicle options available then weren't particularly exciting; however, Renault offered a glimpse of anticipation with their creation.

A recognizable design, a fresh platform, and an attractive pricing make it one of the most discussed new vehicles this year. However, if it performs poorly, it might discourage those looking to move away from internal combustion engines (ICE).

What Are The Specs?

Priced sharply, it starts at £22,995 ($29,800) in the UK. Similar to its predecessor, it is not positioned as a luxury car but rather as one for all consumers. You can select between two battery choices, both delivering energy to a solitary motor driving the front wheels.

The base model 5 comes equipped with a 40kWh battery delivering 120 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque, offering a range of 192 miles or 310 kilometers as per the European WLTP standards. Alternatively, there is an extended-range option featuring a 52 kWh battery that provides 150 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, capable of reaching up to 252 miles, which is equivalent to 405 kilometers.

The compact battery vehicle accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 9.0 seconds, whereas the larger model accomplishes the same feat in just 7.9 seconds. Despite their size difference, both models reach a maximum speed of 93 mph (150 km/h). This exceeds most European speed limits except those found on German highways without set speed caps; hence, they perform sufficiently well. In terms of recharging capabilities, the car with a 40 kWh battery supports up to 80 kW rapid charging, enabling it to charge from 15% to 80% in approximately 31 minutes. On the other hand, the version equipped with a 52 kWh power pack can achieve the same state of charge range within about 30 minutes using a 100 kW charger. While these recharge rates might seem ordinary, consider that these vehicles prioritize affordability and urban driving over long-distance travel requirements.

It's significantly larger than the initial model, which isn't surprising since hitting this newer version wouldn't result in such severe consequences like merging with the A-Pillar or having the steering wheel pierce your solar plexus. (Such outcomes are generally considered undesirable nowadays.)

This doesn't imply ample storage space in the trunk—there's only 11 cubic feet available when the seats are upright, which increases to 39 cubic feet when they're folded down. This could suffice for your grocery shopping trips or short drives within the city, but fitting all four passengers along with their baggage might pose some challenges.

I was driving the 52 kWh model in Techno trim. This version represents the mid-tier option, yet it offers appealing color choices (the highest trim level doesn't offer green with a contrasting roof, plus it misses out on the most stylish wheels, among other features).

With a weight of 3,219 lbs, it's practically lightweight for an electric vehicle. Combined with decent power output, zipping through city streets becomes quite enjoyable. The acceleration won't jerk your neck forward, making it stand out in today’s market where many high-performance models boast extreme speed claims; this subtlety is surprisingly pleasant.

The vehicle offers four drivable modes accessible through a "multi-sense" button located on the steering wheel. These options include Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Perso (which Renault calls "personal"). Each mode alters aspects like steering resistance, engine responsiveness, and several others. For leisurely city driving, the Eco setting works just fine; although not overly energetic, this isn't an issue when vehicles typically move no faster than 11 mph. Most of your drives can comfortably be handled with the Comfort option: the steering provides appropriate feedback, acceleration responds promptly, and overall operation seems quite pleasant. Sport mode certainly livens things up and adds excitement during twisty roads, yet for casual urban cruising...it might seem excessive. In essence, you probably won’t require anything beyond these settings for typical use cases.

The Renault 5 is likely to see most of its time spent in town. Its dimensions make it well-suited for urban environments, the steering is responsive enough for easy maneuvering around corners, and its relatively low power output reduces the likelihood of speeding tickets. Additionally, with a WLTP range sufficient for at least a week's worth of commutes before needing a charge, it should handle daily driving needs efficiently, assuming everything goes as planned.

On the freeway, everything feels smooth, silent, and cozy. The car's suspension allows for somewhat intriguing tremors when driving over bumpy terrain; however, considering what Renault is asking for this vehicle, one shouldn’t anticipate floating along like clouds.

If you decide to step up your game and engage the Sport mode, you'll likely find yourself amused rather swiftly. The vehicle accelerates smoothly even at higher speeds, offering satisfyingly robust feedback from the steering wheel set to its firmest configuration. However, applying excessive acceleration out of turns might cause mild understeering due to its relatively modest horsepower and curb weight; yet these very attributes contribute positively to an enjoyable driving experience when desired. Despite this, the car's mass becomes quite noticeable during spirited drives, and traversing uneven road surfaces may result in a somewhat jittery ride quality. While it certainly doesn’t compete with traditional hot hatches, it remains entertaining whenever you seek some excitement.

This gives it a charming vintage feel without sacrificing modern convenience. While many functions can be managed through a large 10.1-inch touchscreen, the Google-powered entertainment system, complete with CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, is user-friendly and easy to navigate.

When it comes to compact vehicles, the handling stands out. It's enjoyable, lively, and brings joy to driving enthusiasts. Using youthful lingo, you could say it has great vibes. The reasonable price further adds to its appeal. Shoppers no longer feel compelled to opt for mundane options just to enjoy their time behind the wheel.

What’s Bad?

On a 50-degree Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) day, with varied driving conditions, Renault reported achieving 3.1 miles per kilowatt-hour. This calculation suggests that the 52-kilowatt-hour battery could travel slightly over 161 miles on a single charge. While this falls significantly short of the advertised range of 252 miles, colder temperatures in London can impact performance like this. Under milder conditions or with careful, slower driving, it likely would manage a greater distance; however, even then, it represents a substantial reduction from expectations.

The A-pillars are quite substantial too, making visibility at intersections somewhat challenging when maneuvering into very tight spaces. Although this vehicle qualifies as compact within electric and American markets, it remains considerably larger than many others. Therefore, do not anticipate squeezing effortlessly into the narrowest openings available.

What Is It Like as an Electric Vehicle?

It perfectly fulfills its purpose. Sure, the maximum charging speed isn't incredibly fast, but this vehicle excels at urban driving and shorter journeys. The regenerative braking is smooth, which means you won't suddenly feel pulled down when navigating through city streets.

The new Renault 5 is a wonderful little thing, all told. It’s best suited to the city, at least when it’s chilly, and its slowish charging means longer journeys may require a bit more commitment than some may be willing to put in. It’s not just a good EV, but it’s a good car full stop. The price isn’t even bad, either.

The excitement is genuine, and the enthusiasm is well-deserved.

Recently, several units of the Toyota bZ4X electric SUV were spotted at an unidentified facility belonging to Toyota in Malaysia. There has been talk about Toyota's plans to introduce this electric vehicle to our local market as well. as early as 2022 —Does this imply that the bZ4X will finally be released in our market?

When we contacted the maker of these videos, @hilmitoyota told us that these units are intended solely for internal testing and are not available for purchase by the general public. Additionally, he mentioned that there has been no formal announcement yet regarding when or if the bZ4X will be released to the public.
