A leading cruise firm has commissioned two new vessels 'tailored specifically for British tourists.'
Marella Cruises, owned by TUI, has ordered two vessels. Italy Fincantieri is building them, with deliveries scheduled for 2030 and 2032.
This signifies the initial occasion when Marella will present new vessels, and the agreement with the Italian shipbuilder reportedly has a value of £1.7 billion.
The parent company TUI AG said earnings could be between up to £128 million per ship per year and a return on invested capital of 12 per cent.
Marella said it was seeking to 'redefine' premium cruising through the use of high-quality materials and 'spacious' accommodation options.
They also said the project will 'have a focus on environmental sustainability'.
The line currently operates a fleet of five ships: Discovery, Discovery 2, Explorer, Explorer 2 and Voyager, with accommodations for approximately 2,000 passengers per ship.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and managing director at Fincantieri, stated: "We are delighted to greet Marella Cruises as our newest client and to assist with their ambitions as they venture into the newbuilding sector."

This pact underscores Fincantieri's capability to establish key collaborations with a growing customer network, strengthening our future prospects and guaranteeing maximum occupancy levels across our shipyard facilities.
'The project will bring together our expertise in ship design, innovation, and sustainability to deliver vessels that meet the evolving expectations of modern cruise passengers.'
Marella Cruises stated: "After the approval from TUI's Supervisory Board on Sunday and the verification of available berthing slots confirmed by the shipyard Fincantieri today."
The initial ship delivery is anticipated during the fiscal year 2031, followed by the second vessel scheduled for arrival in fiscal year 2033.
