Somalia Approves Starlink for Groundbreaking Internet Services

The National Communications Authority of Somalia has issued a license to Elon Musk’s satellite internet firm, Starlink, which clears the path for introducing their services within the nation.

The official awarding of the license took place during a ceremony held on Sunday in Mogadishu, where government officials and representatives from Starlink were present, as stated by the authority.

The representatives from the company included Ryan Goodnight, who serves as the senior director of market access, and Micaela Pawlak, holding the position of market access manager. Both stated that Starlink’s satellite internet service will shortly be accessible across the country.

Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, who leads the Communications Authority, stated that the introduction of Starlink will aid Kenya’s initiatives to broaden internet accessibility and enhance digital infrastructure.

While Somalia is already connected to several undersea internet cables, officials said the addition of satellite-based service will help extend connectivity to rural and remote areas.
