The achievements of Moroccan soccer alongside the notable progress Morocco has made in athletics stand as evidence of King Mohammed VI’s forward-thinking guidance, stated Patrice Motsepe, CAF president, during a statement made on Wednesday in Johannesburg.

Motsepe expressed his satisfaction with the response he got after visiting Morocco recently for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations final, as the Atlas Lions secured the African championship.

"Throughout our tour of multiple stadiums in Morocco, the CAF delegation expressed admiration for the exceptional quality of top-tier sports infrastructure," he stated, additionally praising Morocco’s progress in updating sporting venues, enhancing accessibilities, and fostering comprehensive athletic growth.

During the same signing event, Motsepe also commended the Atlas Lions for their groundbreaking achievement at the Qatar World Cup—their status as the inaugural African and Arab team to advance to the semifinals—alongside the successes of the U17 team and other Moroccan national squads.

At CAF, we take pride in Morocco's outstanding accomplishments in sports, particularly in football," he stated, further noting, "The kingdom's triumphs are also victories for the entire African continent.

The CAF has officially extended its collaboration with Africa Global Logistics, designating AGL as the official logistics partner for African football.

"The rejuvenation of our partnership underscores our robust and common dedication to progressing football throughout Africa," stated Motsepe.

How Brad Marchand Is Reshaping the Florida Panthers: A Perfect Fit?

This vision undoubtedly made even the toughest Boston Bruins supporters feel nauseous.

After participating in over 1,200 regular-season and playoff games with the Spoked-B emblem, Brad Marchand now sports a Florida Panthers uniform. Adding insult to injury for Boston fans, Marchand notched his initial assist on a play that sent Sam Bennett into scoring mode, securing an overtime victory for the Panthers.

You've seen how determined this player is, along with his physicality and intensity," said Panthers coach Paul Maurice to reporters prior to Marchand's first game last week. "But when you see him in practice, you think, 'Wow, he has such agility.' It starts to dawn on you just how high his skill level really is.

Marchand is acutely familiar with the cutthroat nature of the Atlantic Division, which adds an extra dose of chaos to the race for the top spot. The Panthers trail the Toronto Maple Leafs by two points entering Their important game on Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena The Tampa Bay Lightning sit between them with 93 points. Each of these three teams has eight games remaining. (There’s a 42.7 percent probability that Toronto and Florida will face each other in the first round of the playoffs.)

Maurice has placed Marchand, who just came back from an upper-body injury that kept him out for much of March, alongside Bennett and rookie Mackie Samoskevich. This combination hasn’t found their rhythm initially, failing to net a single goal during even-strength play after logging 22 minutes and 36 seconds of ice time together. During this period, they have managed only 40.9 percent of the anticipated expected goals. Meanwhile, against Florida, these players were on the ice as opponents generated more significant chances, totaling nine compared to ten by the team featuring them.

In contrast to his role in Boston, where he consistently played with the Bruins' top power-play unit, Marchand has been placed on Florida's second unit along with Anton Lundell, Evan Rodrigues, Carter Verhaegue, and Nate Schmidt since being traded. This move has reduced his average power-play ice time significantly, dropping from 3 minutes and 18 seconds per game to just under 2 minutes per game.

Nevertheless, the Panthers didn’t sign Marchand with the intention of making him their main scoring threat. Before the start of the 2022-23 campaign, Maurice compared Marchand’s situation to that of Eric Staal joining the team. Like Staal—a former captain and Stanley Cup champion—Marchand agreed to take on a reduced role in pursuit of another title opportunity.

We brought in a really talented player, without a doubt," Maurice commented regarding Marchand. "However, the main advantage is adding an enthusiastic veteran who understands his career isn’t going to last another decade. He’s entering the later stages of his career, and such players value each day they spend on the ice.

Maurice also stated to journalists on Tuesday that "Marchand doesn’t face an adaptation period regarding our style of play." At even strength, Florida’s 58.5 percent zone entry rate via dumps ranks as the second highest in the NHL. This strategy has led them to create the second most offensive opportunities through their aggressive forechecking approach, with an average of 2.31 such instances per match. Additionally, they’ve managed to score 26 goals within five seconds after causing turnovers, placing them fourth overall in this category across the league.

Florida’s tough style fits perfectly with Marchand, who always seems ready to hassle his adversaries. He ranks 20th among 364 forwards, with at least 500 minutes played at 5-on-5 this season, for offensive-zone puck recoveries at a rate of 8.74 per 20 minutes.

Bennett informed journalists, "No matter what it takes, he will secure victory." He continued, "(We're) undoubtedly thrilled to have such an asset on our side rather than facing him as opposition anymore.... Acquiring someone of his caliber with so many years of experience under his belt is simply amazing. Our squad was quite assured even prior to making this addition. Now that he’s part of our lineup, it bolsters our faith in each other significantly."

Marchand's last two campaigns concluded with losses against the Panthers. Unable to defeat them previously, he now finds himself joining forces with them in their quest for consecutive titles.

It’s rare to find yourself as part of such a team," Marchand stated to journalists. "Over the years, I've played with many groups, and you can tell right away when things are extraordinary. When you enter a truly remarkable space, you recognize it immediately. This is what they possess here, and it's exactly what everyone aspires to join.

Goodman Reveals Auburn Star's Emotional Triumph That Moved Bruce Pearl to Tears at Final Four

This is an editorial piece.

_____________________

If I gleaned one thing on Friday in San Antonio, it's that Dylan Cardwell is an exceptionally talented public speaker.

Cardwell is Mr. Auburn Fans adore him. Auburn's coach, Bruce Pearl, holds him in high regard. There’s a television position lined up for Cardwell once his professional basketball journey ends. He’s that impressive. Possibly as remarkable as Charles Barkley.

What Cardwell stated at the Alamodome caused Pearl to burst into tears in front of all the cameras. This touching scene should definitely be shared and commemorated.

I even felt a bit emotional, and it really takes a lot for this seasoned journalist to uncover their emotions.

Regardless of whether they win or lose in the Final Four, Cardwell and his Tigers will be remembered as the greatest team in Auburn basketball history. Auburn (32-5), facing Florida (34-4), will start their match at 5:09 p.m. Central Time on Saturday inside the historic Alamodome. Earlier this season, Florida stunned Auburn with an 90-81 victory at Neville Arena. The upcoming Final Four showdown between Auburn and Florida highlights connections, making Cardwell’s statement particularly poignant before such a significant contest.

This marks an SEC national semifinal clash, with the primary and clearest link being their conference affiliation.

Throughout the season, the SEC has been exceptionally powerful. Alabama showcased remarkable performance. Auburn emerged as an unstoppable force. Meanwhile, Florida evolved into a squad that numerous observers at the Final Four consider invincible.

However, the league displayed exceptional basketball talent nightly. Auburn secured the SEC regular-season championship. Florida claimed victory in the SEC tournament. Now, they resolve their differences on this raised court in San Antonio.

The closeness shared by Auburn and Florida extends beyond that, however.

Auburn is led by coach Pearl, whereas Florida is under the guidance of coach Todd Golden. When Pearl joined Auburn in 2014, he and Golden worked side by side as colleagues. During their time together, Golden shared his knowledge of analytics with Pearl, who in turn imparted his expertise on maximizing player potential to Golden.

It’s not much of a secret. It’s simply love.

Pearl cares deeply for his players, which makes him an excellent coach. This enables him to push them intensively.

The Final Four isn't merely a pair of basketball matches held in April; many individuals fail to recognize this fact. This event encompasses far more than just gameplay—it serves as a coaching conference and offers crucial training opportunities for up-and-coming athletes within the USA Basketball program. Additionally, numerous accolade ceremonies take place throughout the festivities. On Friday, Pearl secured the AP National Coach of the Year honor alongside Rick Pitino from St. John’s, resulting in a shared victory between them.

At his awards news conference, Pearl spoke about his approach as a coaches who prioritizes players' needs. To encapsulate this idea, he shared a tale attributed to Pat Dye, the iconic Auburn football mentor. Dye would often remark that fathers and uncles were able to impart harsh realities to their young relatives knowing these lessons stemmed unequivocally from affectionate intentions.

I pamper my children, but I'll correct their misbehavior," Pearl stated. "I coddle my players, but I'll correct their misbehavior as well.

Pearl cherishes his players as if they were his own kids. This approach provides Auburn with an edge on the basketball court and helps shape exceptional individuals. To Pearl, this method is the only one that makes sense, which explains why he shed tears during Friday’s press conference at the Final Four. The emotion welled up when Cardwell spoke about his beliefs.

Pearl is Jewish and he motivates all of his players to delve into the scriptures. When questioned about praying following his disqualification during the game with Alabama earlier in the season, Cardwell responded. How significant is spirituality for this Auburn squad?

Cardwell’s response was remarkable, so I’ll reproduce it in full here as I believe it holds significant importance. Ultimately, the games will conclude, but the connections we forge and the lessons we glean from these experiences endure for generations and are shared with future ones.

Primarily, all praise goes to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," Cardwell stated. "As Christians, Jews and ourselves may differ, we share belief in the same God. It has been wonderful and inspiring to observe that I'm under a coach who openly shares his beliefs yet permits each of us to follow our own paths. He even motivates us to express our convictions freely.

The impact of our faith on this team is immeasurable. We couldn't have made it this far without it. Faith acts as a major driving force due to the close matches we've had. Out of the ten to eleven one-point games, we've only lost once. That loss came during the Alabama game at home, which was particularly tough. However, seeing how things have turned out so positively overall is really uplifting.

We wouldn't possess such humility nor this strong connection among us without having faith. Let me illustrate: take for instance Bruce Pearl. Not only does he motivate us to attend these breakfast gatherings, but he also promotes participating in Bible studies. It’s rare to come across a coach who advocates for both of these activities. These interactions allow us to bond more profoundly beyond just playing basketball.

The theme of our year has been 'sacrifice,' " Cardwell stated. "True understanding of what sacrifice means comes from knowing Jesus Christ. It was he who gave his life for everyone’s transgressions. This explains why we've felt such intensity recently—because we recognize that our sacrifices could lead us to claim a national championship title. We do this not merely seeking personal accolades or individual praise, but rather out of devotion to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

But we also aim to secure a national title for both this university and Bruce Pearl. It’s my fifth year here, and he has guided me on how to become an outstanding Auburn man. Each time I pray, I pray for us to clinch a national championship, to claim victory for Bruce Pearl. He has worked hard and truly merits it.

I'm thankful to be standing on this platform and playing under a coach as remarkable as Bruce Pearl. I attribute my continued presence at Auburn over these past five years to divine guidance—I love God, I love Auburn. Importantly, not just among others—but indeed, I also hold Coach Bruce Pearl in high regard.

Pearl sat beside Cardwell on the podium. The coach from Auburn dabbed his eyes. A smile crossed his face as he gazed at Cardwell with an expression akin to a father beaming at his own child. While claiming a national championship is remarkable, it doesn’t compare to the true pinnacle of achievement.

The game between Auburn and Florida promises to be a thrilling showdown. Though I'm not a coach, perhaps Pearl might consider having Cardwell deliver the halftime address.

March Madness Mishap: The Sports Bra Turns Last Year’s Error Into a Bar Top Trend

The country's premier women's sports bar is turning around one of the mistakes from last year. NCAA Tournament .

The sports bra took control of the court with the inconsistently sized 3-point arcs This created a buzz during the women's tournament matches held in Portland, Oregon, in 2024, and led to its installation as a new bar surface.

Jenny Nguyen, the founder of Sports Bra, views the court as having drawn more focus to the women’s tournament, which has underscored that the women’s side can no longer remain an overlooked aspect.

And according to her, that is ultimately beneficial.

“As far as we’re concerned, commemorating it helps reshape the story,” Nguyen stated. “There’s something almost uplifting about that, akin to displaying it in a museum. Plus, where else would you showcase it but at the Sports Bra?”

In the previous year, when Portland was home to the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight matches, the court featured uneven three-point lines, differing from one end to the other. roughly 9 inches shorter than standard size at its apex.

Before the lines were redone for the regional final match between UConn and Southern California, five games had taken place on the court. The NCAA stated that this error was due to a human mistake made by the firm responsible for setting up the venue.

The legal issues were merely part of a sequence of complications throughout the 2024 women's tournament.

In Spokane, Washington, the men’s and women’s opening-round games overlapped with a youth volleyball tournament. This led to some of the women’s teams being accommodated in hotels located across the state border in Idaho. The Utah women's team mentioned that during their stay there, players were subjected to racist abuse by a passerby .

Moreover, during an early round match in Raleigh, North Carolina, a referee was replaced at halftime due to a potential bias issue. In another instance, a player was removed from a game for similar reasons. remove a nose piercing .

This March Madness has seen little controversy regarding women's basketball, which Nguyen views positively for the development of women’s sports. This is part of what inspired her to transform the former playing surface into a bar countertop.

"We believe it's the most incredible tale ever told. However, some others may view it as the gravest error imaginable, one that merely commemorates a misstep and leaves a blemish on the competition," she stated.

The Sports Bra, launched in 2022, was the inaugural one of its kind. increasing number of sports bars tailored for women spreading nationwide Including "Rough & Tumble" in Seattle and "A Bar of Their Own" in Minneapolis, the Sports Bra aims to broaden its presence across more regions. The venture has received backing from Alexis Ohanian, a co-founder of Reddit and an original owner of Angel City FC in the NWSL.

Nguyen mentioned that parts of the notorious courthouse might also be included in those upcoming sites.

Like in 2021, when the disparity between the men's and women's weight rooms at the event prompted the NCAA to take action—these small but significant fights contribute to an improved experience for all female athletes and their teams. "It’s quite a rollercoaster," Nguyen stated, "but we're embracing it."

Ovechkin Matches Gretzky's Legend: 'The Great 8' Scores Historic 894th Goal

categories: , , , ,

"The Magnificent Eight" stands alongside "The Greatest of All Time," and is ready to achieve a significant landmark.

As Wayne Gretzky looked on from a box at Capital One Arena, Alexander Ovechkin moved nearer to making history by scoring his 893rd and 894th career goals, tying him for the top spot on the NHL’s all-time list.

The tying goal, which equaled some historic record, was scored midway through the third period against the Chicago Blackhawks. He grabbed the puck and sped towards the net from the left wing during a Capitals power play, managing to get it past the goaltender.

As Ovechkin went down on one knee, the Capitals' bench rushed onto the ice to join in the celebration of this landmark goal. Meanwhile, a throng of spectators dressed in red filled the stadium, their cheers echoing throughout the venue.

The Capitals forward reached his 894th goal in a number of games that was one less than Gretzky’s.

"It’s fine,” Gretzky stated during an in-game interview when discussing Ovechkin equaling his record. “My father used to tell Gordie Howe something similar ages ago. This is exactly what our sport is meant for.”

"That's what this game is all about ... Alex has been great for Washington (Capitals) ... He's been great for his own country (Russia) ... And I'm very proud of him ... I'm proud of what he accomplished. And that's what makes our game so wonderful.

Ovechkin currently has six remaining regular-season games to break the record for most goals scored in NHL history, beginning with the match against the New York Islanders on Sunday afternoon.

It’s said that the Capitals team leader might have gotten the chance to play towards the end of the match and achieve the record-breaking goal along with a hat-trick right at their home ice, yet he informed his coaching staff that he prefers not to secure this achievement through scoring into an unguarded net.

Coach Spencer Carbery stated to journalists, "I admire his desire to set a new record with a goalie in the net," adding, "He informed me of this during the game, and I simply wanted to ensure he wasn’t planning on giving up."

Even Capitals owner Ted Leonsis got into the fun after the game, celebrating with the team, and Gretzky, in the locker room.

Wow, what a night. Wayne and Alex—they're inseparable," Leonsis shared on social media. "Talking about setting goals and surpassing expectations. So much grace—dignity and heritage right here.

Only one more objective remains—to stand solo atop the pedestal. Wayne outshines all as the greatest player ever—and the most dignified gentleman—the game recognizes no equal.

Ovechkin has been on fire recently as he pursues this prestigious milestone, scoring goals in five out of his last six matches, positioning himself to create history.

Some players truly transcend life itself," John Carlson, who set up Ovechkin's goal, told journalists following the match. "Only a select few seem able to do so. It appeared almost certain.

The NHL has committed to broadcasting all Capitals games nationally for the remainder of the season as Ovechkin pursues the top spot in goal-scoring.

For those eager to see history unfold, tune into TNT on April 6 at 12:30 p.m. to catch the Capitals playing against the Islanders.

Eagles Rekindle Fire with Star Bull Harley Reid for Clash Against Suns

West Coast mentor Andrew McQualter is supporting Harley Reid to excel right from the start, stating that the previous top draft choice is mature enough to cope with the pressure he'll face.

Last year, during his debut season, Reid made an impressive impact on the competition, putting together a collection of highlight plays that many AFL players would covet.

When the 19-year-old claimed the goal-of-the-year accolade, he left Melbourne's standout player, Christian Petracca, behind with a swift three-bounce run covering around 47 meters, ultimately slotting the kick through convincingly.

Reid's impressive scores and massive blocks were additional highlights that thrilled Eagles supporters.

The prospects of Reid elevating their performance further in 2025 appeared dimmer during the summer when the emerging talent grappled with multiple injuries.

After sustaining a slight concussion, Reid encountered persistent problems with his leg and sore ankles, which put a stop to his progress.

However, McQualter asserts that Reid is set to play in Sunday’s match against Gold Coast at Optus Stadium. The new coach holds great expectations for what his standout player can accomplish.

"Harley's set to go," McQualter stated on Thursday.

Many athletes experience various challenges during pre-season.

However, once players are selected, they’re chosen to compete at the AFL level. Therefore, Harley is all set to play.

As the previous season progressed, Reid turned into a prime target for taggers, and this strategy proved highly effective for opposing teams.

McQualter believes Reid will possess the resources needed to deal with any side that focuses on him.

"Should it arrive, we're prepared," McQualter stated.

And besides, he's grown up now and capable of taking care of himself, so we've got some strategies ready just in case.

I'm confident Harley can handle that.

There's a strong chance that Reid will face off against Gold Coast ace Matt Rowell on Sunday.

"Definitely, these are two formidable competitors, making their matchup quite thrilling to observe," stated McQualter.

Traditionally, Dimma (Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick) doesn't do much tagging, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out, but it could make for an exciting contest.

A factor that might limit Reid's impact during the initial part of the season is the unavailability of key player Elliot Yeo, the prominent midfielder, as he remains sidelined for approximately another five to seven weeks due to injuries in his ankle and knee.

Last year, Yeo and Reid created an enticing duo, however, without Yeo's presence, opposing teams will likely focus more on targeting Reid.

The Gold Coast team will lack Matt Andrews (due to chest issues) and Sam Flanders (with back problems) for their match against the Eagles. However, midfielder Lachie Weller (who has been dealing with a hamstring issue) and key defender Charlie Ballard (recovering from an ankle injury) should be able to take part in the game.

The West Coast team was planning for Bo Allan’s AFL debut, however, the No. 16 selection from last year's national draft won’t be playing because of an illness that caused him to lose several kilograms.

'If Only I'd Said, 'Coach, I'm Drunk'": Gary Payton Reveals His Regret Over Allen Iverson's Practice Outburst

Over a decade since Allen Iverson lashed out at journalists during a press conference, Gary Payton candidly addressed the possibility of him potentially being The genuine cause of A.I.'s well-known "practice rant" According to the Hall of Fame point guard, everything began when the star player from the Philadelphia 76ers sought his advice on maintaining health throughout many seasons.

Payton He disclosed that he directly informed Iverson that he had never experienced fatigue or soreness due to his Seattle Supersonics coach, George Karl, allowing him to miss practices. Much to GP’s astonishment, Iverson gained significant attention from the press when he criticized them about practicing not long after their meeting where they were drinking.

Eventually, Sixers Head Coach Larry Brown discovered that "The Glove" somewhat influenced A.I.’s viewpoint regarding practices, which naturally didn’t sit well with him. Following a game between the Sixers and the Sonics, Brown addressed Payton directly, and in 2013, GP recounted their discussion.

When [Coach] Larry Brown approached me during a game against his team, the Sixers, he mentioned that I had brought something new into play. After one of our matchups, he commented, "See what you’ve started." But I responded, "Coach, I didn’t start this." I explained to him that I only followed instructions from my own coach, and since you’re a different kind of coach, please don’t attribute it to me," Payton recalled on Fox Sports.

I should've simply stated, 'Coach, I’m intoxicated. Period. Coach, I was drunk,' he jokingly added.

From intoxicated counsel to dispute

In all fairness, Payton never once imagined that what he told Iverson would result in controversy. As one of the best NBA players of all time, "The Glove" understood how important practice is, and he didn't mean to influence a fellow NBA star's view on it.

Regrettably, this event greatly worsened Iverson's already damaged image as an athletic figure. The notorious interview had a lasting impact on the career of the 2001 NBA Most Valuable Player, leading to a highly divided public opinion about him.

To this day, numerous fans and critics continue to recall the infamous practice rant every time Iverson’s name comes up. This moment holds such significance for AI that it can be emotionally taxing, continually shaping his image within the sporting world.

I had a ton of stuff going on at that moment. No matter which reporter it was, they wouldn’t stop questioning me regarding the training scenario, so I snapped. What’s wild is everyone finds this hilarious except for me. Allen once opened up in a podcast interview.

Iverson wasn't defeated by his practice rant.

Even though severe critiques followed the outburst, Iverson managed to recover and continue thriving in his NBA journey. Instead of letting the negative feedback shape his legacy, he channeled it into fuel for success, aiming to silence those who doubted him. Driven by steadfast resolve, “The Answer” dedicated himself fully to improving his game, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment during matches.

Although AI might not have shown up consistently during practices, those who really knew him acknowledged his zeal and dedication once the games began. Every time he took the court, Iverson poured all of himself into each play, bringing such intense energy that it mesmerized spectators and quieted critics alike.

Charlotte Wilson Claims Gold in Dual Moguls at Olympic Test Event

Charlotte Wilson has crowned her impressive inaugural season by securing her very first FIS World Cup gold medal on the Olympic course in Livigno, Italy.

Exactly 24 hours following her recognition as the FIS Freestyle Moguls Rookie of the Year for this season, Wilson amazed everyone by defeating some of the top competitors in the dual moguls event.

Wilson stated to the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) that it still hasn’t registered with him.

What a remarkable day and what an extraordinary sensation.

Wilson's path to triumph couldn’t have been more challenging, as she had to face the top three highest-ranked women on this year’s circuit in consecutive one-on-one encounters.

After eliminating French legend Perrine Laffont in the semifinals and Japanese skier Rino Yanagimoto in the quarterfinals, Wilson defeated overall World Cup champion Jaelin Kauf with a score of 22-13 in the finals.

"As I mentioned before, I was hoping to maintain the momentum from yesterday into today, and I truly believe we succeeded in doing so," she stated.

I planned to put in my greatest effort. Such chances don't come around frequently.

It was wild trying to even stay in touch with Jaelin, not to mention winning.

For the first time, dual moguls will be held at the Winter Olympics next year in Livigno. This World Cup stop will serve as a trial run for that event.

Given that last year’s Crystal Globe victor and current Olympic champion Jakara Anthony remains sidelined due to injury, Wilson’s win indicates that the next generation of Australian moguls skiing is thriving right now.

"It provides a great morale boost heading into the new year," Wilson stated.

Secured a spot in the top-10 yesterday and grabbed a victory today, the coming 11 months will demand intense effort, yet I'm quite fond of the location. Next year is poised to be amazing.

In the men's competition, Matt Graham couldn't participate in the dual moguls following a severe crash during the singles event the previous day.

Graham managed to reach the top-six final but had a severe crash on the middle mogul segment, which left him Winded.

"I unfortunately took quite a fall during the medal round yesterday," he shared on Instagram.

Following the episode where I coughed up blood, I required imaging tests to ensure all was intact.

Happily, there are no significant issues and all remains undamaged.

Simply some blood seepage and contusions in my lungs along with overall discomfort from the collision.

You could anticipate that when you bring in a mogul traveling at 40 km/h.

At the Beijing Olympics, Cooper Woods achieved his finest performance for the year, coming in fifth. He was narrowly edged out by Canadian icon Mikaël Kingsbury, who secured his 99th World Cup win.

Graham is anticipated to fully recover in time for the World Championships in St Moritz, starting from March 17.

Up next on the Olympic schedule, the aerials team will take center stage on Thursday evening AEDT.

Australian Laura Peel tops the overall rankings and must secure at least a 12th-place finish to clinch the overall championship.

Hakeem Olajuwon Believed He Outclassed Patrick Ewing: 'I’ve Never Had Those Injuries'

Hakeem Olajuwon Patrick Ewing found themselves at the center of one of the greatest rivalries in NBA history. These two iconic athletes set new standards for centers in the league through their distinct skillsets and playing styles. A further similarity between "The Dream" and "Big Pat" was that they both served as the cornerstone players for their teams during their peak years—the Rockets boasted Hakeem Olajuwon, while Ewing led the New York Knicks. Ewing for the New York Knicks.

Although it seemed like Olajuwon and Ewing were set to end their careers with their respective teams, they unexpectedly found themselves being traded towards the latter part of their celebrated tenures. In 2001, Ewing was sent to the Seattle SuperSonics, followed by Olajuwon being moved to the Toronto Raptors. Toronto Raptors the following year.

At that moment, Father Time had been more favorable to both future Hall of Famers. Nevertheless, "Dream" firmly believed that he aged better as an athlete compared to Ewing.

The distinction between Patrick and myself lies in his experience with severe injuries, whereas I have never encountered such issues. Olajuwon said After linking up with the Raptors during the same offseason when the Orlando Magic signed Ewing, things took shape. Issue I've faced have been superficial.

The Raptors were thrilled about Hakeem.

Before going their separate ways with the Rockets , Olajuwon faced some injuries. Although these injuries weren't severe enough to jeopardize his career, it was clear that they had significantly impacted his physical condition.

A lot of people doubted Olajuwon’s age. However, at 39 years old, “The Dream” stayed calm amidst the speculation. Actually, the twelve-time All-Star center was eager to make considerable contributions to his new squad.

It's odd not wearing a Rockets jersey anymore, Olajuwon shared his thoughts back then. I'm here to assist in helping this team secure victory. I feel fantastic, better than I have in quite some time. Regardless of others' opinions on my capabilities, I remain confident. We possess both the skill and dedication, and I firmly believe in our potential.

Not surprisingly, Olajuwon’s move to Toronto generated enthusiasm among his new teammates. For Raptors all-star players Vince Carter and Antonio Davis, having a top-tier talent such as Hakeem join their team is undoubtedly beneficial.

Things will improve with Antonio Davis returning to his usual position, Carter spoke about Olajuwon joining the Raptors. We've seen excellent performance from him in the center position over recent years, but adding the Dream enhances our squad overall. It’s clear what he brings to the table—swatting shots and defending the rim. This player has a history of success.

Having someone who has achieved everything and can show you how they got there is significant, he added.

"That speaks volumes," Davis commented on Hakeem coming to the Raptors. What I'm saying is, he has faced off against Shaquille O'Neal in the NBA Finals before. He has consistently been the top performer at his position. He ranks among the greatest players ever. So, he's an ideal fit for this team.

Hakeem and Ewing's last NBA campaign

During that particular season, Olajuwon recorded an average of 7.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks across 61 games played with the Raptors. Meanwhile, Ewing managed to score 6.0 points and pull down 4.0 rebounds over 65 appearances for his team. Magic .

It ended up being their final performance in the NBA. Neither of the two forwards managed to meet the expectations set after they were traded and decided to retire once the season concluded.

Australian breakdancer Dr Rachael Gunn , widely recognized by her B-Girl alias "Raygun," has put up for auction an autographed official Team Australia jersey from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The emerald and golden ASICS-created outfit, adorned with Gunn's autograph on the front, was auctioned off for $1860, with the funds benefiting charity.

The shirt that was sold wasn’t Gunn’s famous green one that she had worn during her performance. Her routine included uniquely Australian movements like the hopping kangaroo and the sprinkler.

The auction aimed to generate funds for a non-profit community-run preschool and childcare center in the rural NSW town of Harden, a place dear to her heart.

On Wednesday, Gunn shared in an Instagram story on her account the amount offered by the top bidder.

"Amazing!!! I can't believe my autographed shirt sold for so much!!!" she commented on an image of the eBay auction outcome, along with a mind-blowing emoji.

The center is presently functioning at the Harden Showgrounds until repairs are completed on the facility. Nonetheless, in a few months, the service provider will have to move once more.

Gunn is hoping to capitalise on her worldwide attention despite her campaign drawing criticism towards herself and the Australian Olympic Committee.

In July, many thousands of individuals signed a petition demanding "prompt transparency and accountability" regarding how Gunn became eligible to represent Australia .

Chat with Bennett Ignites as Koloamatangi Steals the Show

categories: , ,

Keaon Koloamatangi has compelled Uber Eats delivery drivers in Sydney’s southwest to accept reduced wages – however, their grievance should be directed at South Sydney’s head coach, Wayne Bennett.

The forward shed approximately 10kg before the 2025 season and currently weighs in at 107 to 108kg, making him as light as when he played centre for the Rabbitohs' SG Ball team.

Koloamatangi, primarily a middle at the close of 2024, attributed her weight loss to an inspiring conversation with the reinstated coach, Bennett.

"He mentioned that he felt quite heavy last year according to his own criteria, and during our conversation over the offseason, Wayne inquired about what I believed would be the most suitable role for me," he explained.

I thought that sitting in the second row was my optimal spot.

The former NSW player exited the discussion with the aim of shedding pounds to compete effectively against the top-tier edge forwards in the league.

Liam Martin (who weighs 103kg), Briton Nikora (weighing 94kg), Dylan Lucas (at 96kg), and Angus Crichton (with his 102kg frame) are all notably slimmer compared to Koloamatangi’s playing weight of 118kg for the midweight division back in 2024.

"If you consider all the finest players (those who play in the second row), I believe I belong among their ranks. However, without adequate fitness, excelling to the top three or top two positions in that role will be unattainable," he stated.

The initial casualty was dessert – Koloamatangi's weak spot.

Koloamatangi acknowledges that delivery drivers close to his residence in the Canterbury-Bankstown area might be noticing a reduction in their wallet weight due to his healthier lifestyle choices.

“I wasn’t very good with desserts, so I basically eliminated them and tried to see how long I could last without,” he explained.

I would eat whatever was in the cupboard, but mostly I'd order Uber Eats açaí since I'm based in the Canterbury-Bankstown region where açaí is quite popular.

I had to cancel that order, so Uber Eats might have lost some revenue as a result.

Within just a few months, Koloamatangi started noticing improvements.

"He mentioned that he slimmed down rapidly. He didn’t find the change in his eating habits to be extremely significant," he explained.

The 26-year-old will take the field for his second match this season when he faces St George Illawarra on Saturday following Souths' narrow one-point win over the Dolphins in their previous encounter.

He's still adjusting to his more streamlined build.

"It feels somewhat unusual being lighter since I occasionally sense that I have less power, but I’ve been performing well at the gym. So now, I’m simply aiming to become more comfortable with my new physique," he explained.

I've improved significantly in terms of self-confidence. My aim was to push my limits beyond what I do on the field. Even though I haven’t mastered it yet, I’m content.

NI Contender Eager for Showdown on Gladiators Stage

As contestants and 'gladiators' prepare to face off in the quarter-finals of the second season of the revamped Gladiators TV show, there will be a Northern Irish connection involved.

Keeva Neely, hailing from Swatragh in County Londonderry, advanced during the show’s second episode after her competitor Nikki was unable to participate because of an injury.

However, she stated that she "still has more to prove" in the quarterfinal.

The television show features individuals competing against 'gladiators' in lively athletic events to claim a reward. It initially premiered on ITV during the 1990s. A revival subsequently started airing on Sky One in 2008. Another reboot commenced operations in 2024.

What’s the absolute worst that might occur?

Ms. Neely, owner of her own gym, informed News NI that she has been passionate about fitness since childhood.

“I began my journey as a receptionist at a gym, where I developed a genuine appreciation for interacting with people. It was heartening to see them enter burdened by life’s challenges and leave with smiles on their faces,” she shared.

I simply wished to be that person for another individual.

When the chance arose to join Gladiators, Ms. Neely eagerly seized the opportunity.

I've always been eager to step out of my comfort zone and take risks. There were times when I'd decline opportunities and later regret not giving them a chance.

"When this chance presented itself, I simply agreed to seize it, wondering what the worst outcome could be," she stated.

Happily, it turned out to be one of the finest experiences I have had.

Ms. Neely stated that the experience was among the most "incredible, overpowering, mentally taxing" events of her life. She mentioned that whenever she reflects on it, she can't help but smile.

'Nervous and excited'

After her opponent Nikki was hurt during an earlier scene, Ms. Neely advanced to the quarterfinals.

She stated emphatically that she feels compelled to demonstrate even more now since she was unable to participate in the eliminator.

She mentioned that she believes she still needs to demonstrate more because she wasn't able to participate in the ' eliminator' challenge.

I and Nikki were equally excited about participating in the eliminator. However, since I didn’t attempt it initially and am now heading into the quarter-finals with this challenge ahead of me for the first time, it’s certainly going to add some anxiety. Nonetheless, I’m determined to give it my all.

"You might see a very anxious Keeeva, yet also a highly thrilled one," she chuckled.

In her race, she got the opportunity to encounter one of the newly introduced gladiators, Cyclone, hailing from County Wexford, , making it encompass the entire island.

Wow, that was insane; I can definitely say I was present, absolutely terrified.

Powerlifter Lystus Ebosele, aged 23 and widely recognized as Cyclone, is an individual whom Ms. Neely admires greatly within the realm of fitness.

She mentioned that although it was daunting and frightening, it turned out to be the most incredible experience.
