Namibia Bolsters Uranium Market with Expanded Exploration and Production

Cape Town, South Africa — Namibia is growing its uranium sector via both current ventures and fresh Exploration and Production (E&P) endeavors. Having averaged 5,613 metric tons annually recently, the country has firmly secured its place as the globe’s third-biggest uranium producer.

With worldwide attention turning toward uranium due to escalating demands for nuclear power generation, the nation is stepping up collaboration with multinational exploration and production firms to fully exploit its uranium sector’s capabilities. During the imminent Africa Mining Indaba, scheduled from October 1st through October 3rd in Cape Town, stakeholders will have opportunities to explore profitable ventures across Namibia’s mining landscape.

2025 Milestones

Recent advancements underscore Namibia's progress in the uranium industry. In February 2025, Snow Lake Resources from Canada initiated Phase 2 drilling at their Engo Valley site with plans for up to 7,500 meters of both reverse circulation and diamond drilling. The initial resource assessment for this initiative is anticipated later in the year. Additionally, Pioneer Lithium took over Rodon Metals, which manages the Warmbad Project, allocating AU$1.675 million towards geologic studies and exploratory activities aimed at enlarging the mining operations.

In January 2025, Connected Minerals initiated drilling operations at the promising Swakopmund site following the acquisition of a prospecting permit from the Namibian authorities. Additionally, the firm is investigating the Etango Northeast area, where significant uranium deposits were verified back in November 2024. It is anticipated that Deep Yellow Limited will finalize their financial commitment for the 79-million-pound expansion of the Tumas project during the initial three months of 2025. This venture aims to yield six million pounds annually starting in 2026, extending over thirty years, which would enhance Namibia’s overall output capability.

2024 Achievements

In 2024, Namibia witnessed numerous advancements in its markets, including fresh discoveries and newly initiated exploration and production efforts. During the latter part of this year, Australia-based Paladin Energy reached an unprecedented level of output at 1.2 million pounds. They aspire to break their own records again by reaching a target of 3.6 million pounds by June 2025. Apart from these major undertakings, Namibia also observed an increase in both newcomers entering the marketplace and collaborative ventures. For instance, Madison Metals joined forces with Star Minerals to expedite progress on the Cobra Project. Additionally, Australian firm Gibb River Diamonds obtained three additional permits within the Erongo region, whereas Hertz Energy submitted applications for two more prospecting licenses. Meanwhile, Oar Resources managed to secure AU$1 million through shareholder contributions aimed at supporting two emerging uranium initiatives.

During this period, African Mining Week will include top-tier panel discussions and special networking events designed to link international investors with Namibia’s expanding uranium industry. This gathering aims to promote cooperation among worldwide mining companies and Namibian entities, thereby establishing a platform for rapid expansion within the nation’s uranium sector.
