Lubbock, Texas – On March 29th at the Texas Relays, Texas Tech University's female track and field athlete Amori Pierson etched her name into the school's record book with an impressive shot put throw of 17.84 meters, setting a new program best.
Pierson surpassed the previous record of 17.80 meters, which was once owned by Kayli Johnson, the champion in this event at the Big 12 Women’s Outdoor Championship back in 2022.
When challenges get tough, I don’t shy away," Pierson stated. "Instead, I embrace even more responsibilities so that difficult tasks become simpler over time. I believe this approach significantly aids my success and sets me apart.
The second-year student-athlete continued her outstanding form after setting a new record by claiming first place at the Masked Rider Open, launching the javelin to a distance of 16.15 meters.
She has distanced herself," stated Texas Tech head coach Wes Kittley. "She is understanding the spin technique and learning how to remain consistent rather than missing, essentially getting more familiar with the event itself. She puts in a lot of effort.
Pierson stands at number 5 nationally in shot put as they head into the 44 Farms Teams Invite in College Station, starting this Friday.
