Depeche Mode Unveil Concert Film Capturing 'Memento Mori' Shows in Mexico City

The band revealed on Thursday that they will release a full-length concert movie capturing their recent performances in Mexico City later this year.

Depeche Mode: M records the group performing live throughout their Memento Mori Tour in Mexico City, drawing an approximate crowd of 200,000 spectators in September 2023. This concert film – which includes segments and historical clips taken from these performances – was helmed by Fernando Frias, the acclaimed Mexican director known for his work on the notable 2019 picture. I'm No Longer Here .

The movie will act as "a lens through which we can view the band's enduring worldwide impact, and serves as a strong homage to the indomitable bond linking music, heritage, and the essence of humanity," the group noted. Depeche Mode: M is set to hit cinemas later this year.

Depeche Mode's tour to promote their 15th studio album, Memento Mori , concluded in April 2024. "Melancholy has always played a crucial role in the Depeche Mode experience... their music thrives on vulnerability. This openness and feeling of letting go remain fundamental elements for Depeche Mode today," Rolling Stone wrote of the album , which occurred after the death of band member Andy "Fletch" Fletcher.

It’s no wonder the band, with its two members now in their 60s, named the record. Memento Mori - a gentle nudge in Latin reminding you that you shall (indeed, must 1) Die eventually—and they chose it before Fletcher was still around... Recognizing our impermanence shapes much of this. Memento Mori, However, it never comes across as overly forceful or particularly gloomy. In fact, some of the tracks have an uplifting feel to them."
