NI Contender Eager for Showdown on Gladiators Stage

As contestants and 'gladiators' prepare to face off in the quarter-finals of the second season of the revamped Gladiators TV show, there will be a Northern Irish connection involved.

Keeva Neely, hailing from Swatragh in County Londonderry, advanced during the show’s second episode after her competitor Nikki was unable to participate because of an injury.

However, she stated that she "still has more to prove" in the quarterfinal.

The television show features individuals competing against 'gladiators' in lively athletic events to claim a reward. It initially premiered on ITV during the 1990s. A revival subsequently started airing on Sky One in 2008. Another reboot commenced operations in 2024.

What’s the absolute worst that might occur?

Ms. Neely, owner of her own gym, informed News NI that she has been passionate about fitness since childhood.

“I began my journey as a receptionist at a gym, where I developed a genuine appreciation for interacting with people. It was heartening to see them enter burdened by life’s challenges and leave with smiles on their faces,” she shared.

I simply wished to be that person for another individual.

When the chance arose to join Gladiators, Ms. Neely eagerly seized the opportunity.

I've always been eager to step out of my comfort zone and take risks. There were times when I'd decline opportunities and later regret not giving them a chance.

"When this chance presented itself, I simply agreed to seize it, wondering what the worst outcome could be," she stated.

Happily, it turned out to be one of the finest experiences I have had.

Ms. Neely stated that the experience was among the most "incredible, overpowering, mentally taxing" events of her life. She mentioned that whenever she reflects on it, she can't help but smile.

'Nervous and excited'

After her opponent Nikki was hurt during an earlier scene, Ms. Neely advanced to the quarterfinals.

She stated emphatically that she feels compelled to demonstrate even more now since she was unable to participate in the eliminator.

She mentioned that she believes she still needs to demonstrate more because she wasn't able to participate in the ' eliminator' challenge.

I and Nikki were equally excited about participating in the eliminator. However, since I didn’t attempt it initially and am now heading into the quarter-finals with this challenge ahead of me for the first time, it’s certainly going to add some anxiety. Nonetheless, I’m determined to give it my all.

"You might see a very anxious Keeeva, yet also a highly thrilled one," she chuckled.

In her race, she got the opportunity to encounter one of the newly introduced gladiators, Cyclone, hailing from County Wexford, , making it encompass the entire island.

Wow, that was insane; I can definitely say I was present, absolutely terrified.

Powerlifter Lystus Ebosele, aged 23 and widely recognized as Cyclone, is an individual whom Ms. Neely admires greatly within the realm of fitness.

She mentioned that although it was daunting and frightening, it turned out to be the most incredible experience.
