Columbia, MD – The individual sought for the 2020 killing of a pregnant woman and the later demise of her child has been taken into custody.
Rabiah Ahmad, who was 30 years old and 28 weeks pregnant, was shot while inside a home located on Dovecote Drive near 6600 block on July 31, 2020. When Howard County Police arrived at the residence shortly after 11 p.m., they discovered that several individuals were staying there due to reports of gunshots being heard. Upon investigation, law enforcement determined that multiple rounds had been discharged into the dwelling from an external location. Having resided at this address for just a short period, Ahmad sustained injuries from a single bullet. She was promptly transported to medical facilities where doctors urgently performed delivery procedures. Her newborn child, named AhJa, passed away five days following the incident at the same healthcare center, as reported by authorities.
The Howard County Police Department has been looking for the suspect over the last 4.5 years. Investigators discovered that Edward Robinson, aged 31 from Columbia, got into an altercation with two occupants of his residence. This disagreement resulted in Robinson firing shots towards the property as a warning to those involved, according to law enforcement reports. The ammunition retrieved from the location matched the type used in a firearm seized from Robinson’s home in Columbia; this weapon was obtained through a search warrant carried out on April 9th.
On the same day, law enforcement officials took into custody Robinson and accused him of facing charges for two instances each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder along with associated offenses like assault and weapons violations involving handguns. The individual was apprehended in Gaithersburg and remains in custody at the Howard County Detention Center without bail, according to statements from the police department.
Our investigators remain relentless until they secure justice for a heartbroken family, and today we managed to offer Rabiah’s relatives a measure of resolution," stated Howard County Police Chief Gregory Der. "Almost half a decade has gone by since the tragic and pointless loss of Rabiah and infant Ahja, which undoubtedly seemed like an eternity for their loved ones. Rabiah possessed immense potential and promise, yet both she and Ahja met such cruel fates. I wish to extend my appreciation to our dedicated officers whose unwavering efforts led us here, as well as to those individuals who provided crucial information enabling progress in this investigation.
