Washington [US], March 15 (ANI): Apple TV+ has officially renewed its Emmy-winning comedy series 'Ted Lasso' for a fourth season, with star Jason Sudeikis set to reprise his role as the titular character.
This announcement follows over a year of speculations regarding the show’s continuation, with Sudeikis’ decision to come back playing a crucial role in securing its renewal.
The creators announced the information through their verified social media accounts.
"Ted Lasso has been nothing less than phenomenal, cultivating an ardent global following and bringing boundless delight and humor, along with messages of kindness, empathy, and unshakable optimism," stated Matt Cherniss, the head of programming at Apple TV+, in a release.
"We're all excited at Apple to keep working alongside Jason and the exceptional team of creatives who bring this series to life," he stated, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The show's production crew had earlier mentioned that their choice for a fourth season would hinge on Sudeikis being open to continuing with the series.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, during a recent discussion, Sudeikis disclosed that in season four, Ted will mentor a female squad, a development that was foreshadowed in the concluding episode of season three.
The production of season four is anticipated to start during the summertime, as screenwriters have already commenced their work on the upcoming season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast of the show, featuring Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, is anticipated to come back, even though Apple TV+ hasn't formally announced any casting decisions beyond Ted Lasso himself, played by Jason Sudeikis.
'Ted Lasso' has achieved both critical acclaim and commercial popularity for Apple TV+. Notably, season three became the platform’s most-watched series yet.
The show has also received many accolades, including multiple Emmy wins.
