(WJBF) - According to authorities, an employee at a Walmart in Georgia opened fire inside the store during non-operational hours, fatally shooting one coworker and seriously injuring another individual who was outside the premises.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office reported that they were called to a shooting incident at the Walmart located in Covington, Georgia, shortly after 1:30 a.m. Subsequently, investigators from the sheriff’s office found out that an employee exited the premises to retrieve a firearm before returning indoors and lethally shooting another staff member.
The shooter subsequently exited the store and encountered another individual known to him outside, who was also shot. This person was taken to a medical facility and was reported to be in serious condition as of early Friday.

Once outside the store premises, the assailant proceeded to barge into a neighboring residence, where he tragically killed a woman he knew, as stated by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
"The suspect deliberately aimed at people they recognized," according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina were subsequently approached by the Georgia State Patrol for help in finding the shooter. The suspect was taken into custody following a short confrontation just a few hours after the original incident occurred.
According to officials, the suspect inflicted gunshots upon himself as well. He received treatment at the location before being moved to a medical facility.
The event is presently being looked into by authorities in both Georgia and South Carolina.
