This is the most outstanding team of competitive leaders we've ever assembled. When Kaulig Racing President Chris Rice uttered those words, they were not empty promises. Throughout the NASCAR Cup Series offseason, Kaulig Racing experienced significant shifts within their team structure. Notably, Mike Cook, previously the head engineer at Stewart-Haas Racing, came aboard as the new competition director. However, the biggest transformation involved Ty Dillon—his efforts seem to be yielding promising results.
In December 2024, Andrew Dickesen transferred from Richard Childress Racing to join Kaulig Racing. He took up his new position as the crew chief overseeing the No. 10 Chevrolet driven by Ty Dillon. Since Ty Dillon has yet to secure any wins in the Cup Series, many have been doubtful about this arrangement. However, an expert is optimistic due to some encouraging initial outcomes.
Could Ty Dillon be heading toward redemption?
The 33-year-old grandson of Richard Childress hasn’t exactly shone brightly throughout his career. From 2017 through 2023, Ty Dillon raced full-time for six seasons. During this time with Germain Racing, he achieved his best result—a third-place finish—in October 2020 at Talladega. Across these years, he secured seven top-ten placements within the Cup Series. Additionally, Dillon boasts three wins in the Craftsman Truck Series and one triumph in the Xfinity Series. Looking ahead to 2025, changes loom large as well; notably, Andrew Dickeson will step into the role of Dillon’s new crew chief. With extensive experience gained from competing both Down Under in the Australian V8 Supercars Super2 Series and here stateside, Dickeson brings valuable insights.
At present, Dickeson is leveraging his skills to bring out the best in Ty Dillon’s potential. Driving identical vehicles in 2024, Daniel Hemric secured a 29th place in the championship rankings. According to NASCAR analyst Eric Estepp. emphasized in an episode of Out of the Groove, how Dillon is surpassing that performance. Finishing 25th in points might seem insignificant. However, he secured 15th place at Martinsville and 16th at Darlington last weekend. A new crew chief joined the team; Andrew Dickeson transferred from RCR. Currently, Ty Dillon boasts an average finish that’s almost three spots higher and holds a lead of four points over where Daniel Hemric stood driving the same vehicle one year prior.
Dillon already boasts two top-15 finishes in 2025, matching the total he secured during his previous full-time engagement with Spire Motorsports in 2023. His self-assurance was evident even before the start of the 2025 season. In February 2025, Dillon stated: For me, you know, this is the greatest chance I've had in my professional life, joining Kaulig Racing. My ambitions are quite lofty. I entered this sport aiming to claim victories in the Cup Series and contend for titles, making it to the playoffs, and I believe this is my finest shot so far. Ambitious objectives are achieving favorable outcomes, and along the way, he has silenced many skeptics.

Certainly, the doubters of Ty Dillon There were many instances like this. Both he and his brother Austin have underperformed throughout their careers – last year, Austin Dillon lost more supporters because of his right-rear spin at Richmond. In contrast, Ty Dillon faced a similar incident when he was pushed by Austin Cindric at Circuit of the Americas in 2025. There’s a significant gap in skill level between these two racers, and Estepp acknowledges that Ty Dillon proved him wrong with his performance. Many people ridiculed this decision. Even I had my doubts. 'Seriously? Is Kaulig replacing an Xfinity Series champion just for another chance at giving one of Pop-pop’s children more opportunities? Are you certain?' However, kudos to Ty Dillon—he largely ignored all that criticism. Keep in mind, he's a seasoned driver now—33 years old with his own family. So far, he has silenced those who doubted him. While finishing 25th might seem underwhelming, it actually surpasses what many expected at the start of this season... No DNS finishes throughout the entire year—that’s significant; it means avoiding point losses—it’s crucial they maintain this streak."
It appears that Ty Dillon is capitalizing on his chance remarkably well. However, despite his strong showing in NASCAR, he has not fared so well in another game.
Dillon lost his breath.
Sure, NASCAR drivers enjoy letting their hair down occasionally, even when such activities push them to extremes. Recently, an unusual collaboration happened where Cup Series racer Ty Dillon linked up with Leo Neugebauer, the leading figure in decathlon worldwide. Known for winning consecutive titles in athletics at the University of Texas, Neugebauer represented his country in the Olympics held in Paris earlier this year, securing a silver medal. This encounter wasn’t merely a casual introduction; rather, it was a robust convergence between two different worlds. Their meeting took place at the Circuit of the Americas race at the track in the Lone Star State back in early March, where they decided to have a foot race along the frontstretch of the track all the way up to Turn 1. It was pretty clear from the start that Neugebauer held an uneven advantage here—but Dillon accepted the challenge directly.
Neugebauer mentioned that he attempted to provide Dillon with every benefit that came to mind. I'm dressed like a cowboy at the moment, with my hat and boots on, fitting right in here in Texas. He called me out, but I love taking on challenges. So, I gave it everything I've got. Of course, being in boots hindered me slightly; I wasn't as nimble. Still, despite the disadvantage, I came away victorious, which is what counts. Even though he utterly failed in this competition with legs rather than tires, Dillon found humor in the whole affair. He left me behind in the uphill footrace. I kept pace with him initially, but since he was wearing cowboy boots and a hat, I guess he didn’t even push himself.
Even though Ty Dillon was outpaced during the race, he is currently burning rubber in NASCAR. As the Cup Series season continues, we'll have to wait and see if the Kaulig Racing driver can meet his objectives for 2025. What’s your take on this? Share your thoughts below!
