WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) — Law enforcement officials investigated for several hours during the night after a reported domestic dispute led to gunfire at a residence in Waterbury.
The police reported that they apprehended John Irizary, aged 56, from Waterbury, for allegedly shooting a female partner with whom he was involved romantically.

The authorities said they were called to a residence on Berkley Avenue shortly after 10:59 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon their arrival, they discovered the 44-year-old victim with several gunshots injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital in a stable yet critically injured state.
The police mentioned that the couple's 22-year-old son was at home during the incident. It was he who heard the gunshots and promptly dialed emergency services.
The child did not get injured.
The police mentioned that the events leading up to the shooting remain unknown.
Around 4 a.m. on Friday morning, officers vacated the area. They managed to retrieve a firearm.
The probe led to a closure of part of the road for most of the evening and resulted in a significant law enforcement presence in the area.
Channel 3 arrived at the scene shortly after midnight as law enforcement set up a cordon and cordoned off the region.
Several police officers were observed carrying rifles.
The location was not distant from Waterbury Career Academy.
The police accused Irizary of first-degree assault, altering evidence, using a gun for criminal purposes, attempting to commit murder, unlawfully firing a weapon, acting recklessly in the first degree, possessing a pistol or revolver illegally, and owning a firearm or ammunition without permission.
The police mentioned that he lacked a legitimate Connecticut pistol permit and has a prior conviction as a felon.
Previously, he had criminal charges related to firearms.
