JOPLIN, Mo. — A candlelit ceremony takes place outside the Joplin Courts Building to pay tribute to those who have been victims and survivors of crimes.
During National Crime Victims' Rights Week, communities across the nation take part in various annual commemorations.
The vigil in Joplin included a candle-lighting ritual.
Over there, a declaration was announced — indicating Jasper County supports all victims of crime.
The event included multiple speakers such as Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney, Theresa Kenney, and Jasper County Sheriff, Randee Kaiser.
We have numerous systems established to assist individuals accused of crimes, which is beneficial," stated Sheriff Kaiser. "However, we often overlook remembering the victims of these crimes. That's precisely what this initiative aims to address.
After the vigil concluded, Sheriff Kaiser offered a brief prayer, succeeded by a period of quiet reflection to honor those who were lost.
