
Not only did a traffic stop lead to the confiscation of two kilograms of fentanyl, but it also resulted in the arrest of a man from Broward County who was reportedly connected to a drug smuggling operation.
"I won't permit any dealers to spread poison on our streets, regardless of where they're from. We'll hunt them down and make sure they face consequences," stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) reported that around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the Narcotics Unit intercepted a rental vehicle on Interstate 75 close to Colonial Boulevard.

According to the report, when they stopped, K-9 Knox indicated that there could possibly be drugs inside the vehicle. During their search, investigators noted discovering two securely wrapped kilograms of fentanyl concealed behind the passenger seat.
The traveler was recognized as James Pitts, aged 39, and subsequent investigations revealed that Pitts has ties to a drug smuggling operation transporting illicit materials from the Eastern Seaboard to Lee County.
The LCSO stated that this arrest was conducted in partnership with the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
