Arlington – The beginning has been scorchingly hot for Jack Leiter.
On Friday came the unfortunate news. Leiter begins with a 2-0 record and has conceded only one run over 10 innings. The blister that appeared on his right middle finger on Wednesday will likely require him to be placed on the injured list as a precautionary measure due to the danger of repeatedly tearing fresh skin from this area during activities.
The Rangers will recall left-hander Patrick Corbin From Double-A Frisco, where he has been assigned despite not having pitched in a game yet, Corbin threw 87 pitches in an extended spring training game on Sunday in Arizona.
“As of now, it’s a small issue," Leiter stated on Friday regarding the blister.
The Rangers Sure, I understand you want to maintain that approach.
By putting him on the injured list retrospectively from Thursday, he might be able to return as soon as April 18. The Rangers have two days off before then, which may also provide flexibility for adjusting the pitching schedule. This scenario would potentially enable him to skip just one start.
If the Rangers otherwise occupy his position in the lineup on Tuesday against Chicago, they might then push Leiter towards the end of the rotation.
Leiter permitted just one hit across five innings, but suffered from a torn blister on his finger, which he thinks happened when he threw a two-seam fastball in the fourth inning.
The previous time, I ventured out with the discomfort around a two on a scale from one to ten, but I ended up leaving with it escalated to about a six. My aim is to reach a point where it becomes more tolerable and ensure that my level of pain is reduced to roughly a four by the end. And then continue improving.
The Rangers are making efforts to ensure that the next time he takes the pitcher’s mound, the pain will be non-existent both at the start and end of his game.
