Released in 2003 and reaching number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, Toxic is often considered one of the standout tracks withinBritney Spears' repertoire.

The lyrics portray a dysfunctional partnership, and although you may assume Britney penned this tune based on one of her personal romances, there’s actually deeper significance behind it.

In a video posted on TikTok, a woman identified as Kelly revealed that the intriguing tale is her “fun fact” on her Hinge dating profile. She mentioned that the song boasts an extensive background and was initially composed for Kylie Minogue but later ended up being assigned toBritney Spears instead.

She went on to say that the song was offered to Kylie because the songwriter, Cathy Dennis, had already written Can't Get You Out of My Head for the Australian singer, and it had been a hit for her.

Kelley subsequently asserted that Cathy penned 'Toxic' based on one of Kelley’s personal relationships and further composed another track about the same individual titled ‘Sweet Dreams My LA Ex.’ This particular song was initially intended for Britney but ended up being released in 2009 as Rachel Stevens’ first standalone release following her time with the British pop band S Club 7.
