Any project that enlists Australian and Hollywood talent is bound to be captivating, and TV WEEK has its eye on the action thriller, Bear Country .
Filming commenced in February 2025, with the production crew and cast taking to Queensland, Australia.

Flying home to portray the main protagonist, Manco Kapak in Bear Country is Oscar Award-winner Russell Crowe . This is Russell’s first time back in Queensland since working on Land of Bad in late 2022.
Bear Country originates from Thomas Perry’s novel published in 2010. Strip , prior to its adaptation for the screen by writers Daniel Forte and Derrick Borte – who will helm the film as directors.
Bear Country Follows the aged yet powerful nightclub proprietor, Manco, who dreams of offloading his venue to live peacefully alongside his partner. However, these ambitions turn into a far-off wish once his business is hit by a thief wearing a mask.
The synopsis states, "Furious, he dispatches his six security personnel to locate a suspect who is splurging money and is too unfamiliar with Los Angeles to realize he’s been stealing from a mob boss." This pursuit brings them to Joe Carver, an inexperienced yet resourceful arrival who manages to elude arrest and aims to make Kapak regret his choice. In the meantime, the actual perpetrator, Jefferson Davis Falkins, along with his newfound partner, Carrie, appear convinced that they have embarked on a lucrative career—robbing none other than Manco Kapak himself.

The leaders of The Cartel are closely monitoring Manco, and a new young arrival in town is keen on buying the club.
Aaron Paul ( Breaking Bad Daniel Zovatto will depict the unassuming teacher drawn into a corrupt police officer’s plot, known as Jeff. Woman of the Hour ) as the Cartel’s lead figure, Rodriguez; and Luke Evans ( Beauty and The Beast ) as a covert federal agent named Joe Carver.
Additionally, Nina Dobrev has joined the cast ( The Vampire Diaries ), and Teresa Palmer ( A Discovery of Witches ). Their roles in Bear Country currently remain unknown.

Producers include Jeffery Greenstein ( The Hitman’s Bodyguard ), Deborah Glover, and Marker Bower along with Bruno Mustic from Life and Soul Pictures.
It is anticipated that the production will contribute approximately $11.9 million to Queensland’s economy and provide jobs for nearly 100 local workers as a consequence. Bear Country has received a warm welcome from the City of Gold Coast and the Australian Government.
