"Big Screens Aren't a Luxury," Says Luxurious Car Brand

Mercedes-Benz Despite acknowledging that sizable displays do not solely define luxury within a car's cabin, they continue to push forward with installing progressively larger infotainment screens in vehicles.

Speaking to US outlet ABC News Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gordan Wagener stated that other aspects are now gaining significant attention for the German marque, considering the prevalence of sizable infotainment touchscreen displays and digital instrument panels.

"Screen time isn't a luxury," Mr Wagener stated.

You've got a superior—and larger—TV at your place, haven’t you? Plus, every vehicle comes with a large display. Therefore, we must craft luxury that goes further than just what’s on the screen.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz provides a 56-inch 'Hyperscreen' in their electric vehicles such as the EQS and EQS SUV , comprising one panel that includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment display, and a 12.3-inch screen for the front-seat passenger.

The Hyperscreen is anticipated to be included in upcoming models as newer generations are released over the next few years.

Mr Wagener stated that the system functions effectively but has limited features, which Mercedes-Benz aims to enhance by offering more Hyperscreen-specific content in the future.

"We currently have the Hyperscreen in only a few of our vehicles, not across all models. In terms of hardware, it performs exceptionally well," he stated.

From a software perspective, things haven't been ideal. Since having a large screen means you expect fantastic content to watch. Therefore, we're focusing on developing material that is both niche and engaging.

Last month, Mercedes-Benz revealed that their newest MBUX-equipped models will include Sony’s RIDEVU app, offering passengers the chance to watch IMAX movies through the car’s entertainment displays.

Currently, the automobile manufacturer has announced intentions to introduce this feature solely in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Japan, with no updates regarding Australia so far.
