The event took place on February 21, 2025, at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi and was organized by Sarhad Pune along with the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal. Sharad Pawar served as the main emcee for the occasion. Pawar praised the Prime Minister's perceptive speech, striking a chord strongly with Marathi-speaking populations across the globe.
In his correspondence to the Prime Minister, Sharad Pawar expressed, “I am profoundly thankful that you gracefully agreed to open the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan on February 21, 2025, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. This cultural event, organized by Sarhad Pune and Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal, gained historical importance due to your distinguished guidance. Your wise and perceptive address struck a chord with Marathi speakers worldwide. I genuinely value your generous act of showing particular warmth toward me during the opening ceremonies.”
Pawar also emphasized the historic importance of the location where the Sammelan is being held. Talkatora Stadium , which previously functioned as a campsite for renowned warriors such as Peshwa Bajirao I, Mahadji Shinde, and Subedar Malharrao Holkar. Acknowledging the historical significance of the location, Sarhad Pune first suggested erecting half-size statues of these notable individuals. Nevertheless, Pawar mentioned that numerous literary personalities and supporters feel that full-sized equestrian monuments would more appropriately pay tribute to their heritage.
In his correspondence, Pawar appealed to the Prime Minister to step in and instruct the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) along with the Government of Delhi to provide the required permits for setting up statues of Maratha warriors. He highlighted that this recognition would be consistent with the Prime Minister’s dedication to safeguarding India’s extensive historical and cultural legacy.
The letter stated, "As Talkatora Stadium Falling within the purview of the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), I respectfully ask for your assistance in urging the Government of Delhi and NDMC to provide the required approvals for erecting life-size equestrian statues.
Pawar highlighted that your guidance has consistently played a crucial role in acknowledging and safeguarding India's rich heritage. He looks forward to your gracious attention and essential instructions to the relevant officials.
At the same time, Pawar voiced his worries about the recent killing of a village head in Beed, Maharashtra, noting that the area had previously been renowned for its tranquility.
Pawar emphasized the amicable relationships within the area and pointed out that certain individuals chose to "abuse" their authority, with the consequences evident throughout the district.
He called upon the Mahayuti government to act against those "spoiling" the tranquil environment in Beed.
"Beech was an area where everyone followed a tranquil route... I chose six representatives from there, fostering a friendly ambiance. However, certain individuals misused their authority. The consequences of this have become evident in Beech over recent months... It’s crucial to implement stringent measures against those who contaminate our surroundings," stated Pawar. (ANI)
