BMW has announced the pricing and specifications for its refreshed iX electric SUV in anticipation of its launch in Australian dealerships by mid-year.
For now, only one version – the xDrive 45 M Sport – has been introduced, taking over from the previous xDrive40 Sport as the entry-level model.
The starting price is $142,900, excluding on-road fees, which is an increase of $6,000 from its previous model. This price escalation further enlarges the disparity with major competitors in the market. Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV and Polestar 3 , starting from $134,900 and $116,754 each, respectively, excluding on-road fees.

As compensation for the price increase, it includes a range of advanced features and premium enhancements. The standout change being a 30 percent bigger lithium-ion battery pack , increasing its capacity from 77 kWh to 94.8 kWh.
For the first time in a BMW, the larger battery includes silicon carbide semiconductor components, known as SiC inverters, which provide greater efficiency and heat tolerance than traditional silicon semiconductors.
The outcome is an additional 177 kilometers of driving range under theWLTP cycle, bringing the total range to 602 kilometers, compared to the previous model’s 425 kilometers.
This indicates that it now comfortably surpasses the advertised driving ranges of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV (539km) and an Cadillac Lyriq (530 km), but does not reach the mark of Polestar 3 with Long-Range Twin Motor Configuration (706km).
The fast-charging capability has been increased to a peak of 175kW, which is an improvement of 25kW compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, home charging can still be done at 22kW.
BMW mentioned that refining and advancing the iX’s dual electric engines increases their output by 60kW in power and 30Nm in torque. The enhancement reduces the car’s zero-to-100km/h acceleration time to only 5.1 seconds, cutting one whole second from before.
Regarding its design, the iX features a fresh interpretation of the iconic kidney grille equipped with integrated contour lighting and diagonal stripe details. Additionally, the LED headlamps and indicators have undergone a redesign shifting from horizontal to vertical orientation, and both adaptive and cornering lights come as standard equipment.
The Standard M Sport package includes aggressive front air intakes and vertical reflectors at the back.
Additional metallic paint choices can be selected for extra charges; these include Arctic Race Blue, Tanzanite Blue, Dune Grey, and Frozen Deep Grey. In the fourth quarter, two more hues—Frozen Pure Grey and Space Silver—will become available at no extra charge. Six solid color options continue to remain free of cost.
Inside the cabin, a full-length glass roof has become a standard feature, complemented by newly designed M multifunction leather seats. Additionally, an updated M leather steering wheel equipped with heating functionality, along with M-specific pedals, comes as part of the package. The interior also features an anthracite headliner, dark silver accent trims, and a glossy finished center console. Furthermore, monitoring tire pressure is now included among the standard equipment.

Alternatively, one could opt for a 30-speakerBowers & WilkinsDiamond Surround Sound system for $9500.
The 22-inch M alloy wheels come at an extra cost of $2500, whereas the 23-inch 'Individual' aerodynamic wheels will add $5000 more to the price.
Additional variations will join the xDrive 45 M Sport following its release, rounding out the iX lineup by late 2025.
