Islamabad [ Pakistan ], March 16 (ANI): Pakistan People's Party ( PPP ) spokesperson Shazia Marri has vehemently criticized the government's recently implemented policy on alternative energy, calling the shift a "direct attack" on consumers, according to ARY News.
According to ARY News, Marri characterized the shift in policy as an outright attack on individuals utilizing renewable energy sources and saw it as a violation of Pakistan's aspirations towards sustainable energy development.
Marri criticized the government's modification to the net metering rules, under which individuals with solar power systems must sell their electricity at a substantially lower price of 10 rupees per unit instead of the earlier rate of 27 rupees per unit.
Marri characterized the policy as "economically unfair and unjust," and he charged the government with corruption, inefficiency, and undue influence from the mafia in that area.
Shazia Marri Additionally, they refuted assertions that net metering adds only a 90-paise-per-unit cost to consumer expenses, contending instead that the true economic pressure comes from "unused capacity fees" along with an approximate yearly deficit of Rs 600 billion resulting from electricity theft and outstanding invoices.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), part of the federal cabinet, has endorsed several changes to the current net-metering rules with the intention of lessening the escalating economic strain on those connected to the power grid, according to reports from ARY News.
The ECC has updated the buyback rate from the National Average Power Purchase Price (NAPP) to Rs 10 per unit. According to the government, this change under the net metering policy has led to higher tariffs for other electricity customers.
The Pakistan The government has stated that the revised net metering policy will not impact current customers but will only be applicable to future customers.
The administration contends that the introduction of the new metering policy is essential to alleviate the strain on other general electricity users. (ANI)
