Edwin Sifuna Declares No Obligation to Ruto Post Pact with Raila: "Not in the Agreement"

Edwin Sifuna, the Nairobi senator, has stated clearly that he does not have any obligation to join President William Ruto’s team just because of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the ODM party and UDA.

The president spent a week in Nairobi on an official work trip, during which he was joined by duly elected officials ranging from governors to council representatives.

It was later alleged that Sifuna had intentionally distanced himself from the president.

Nevertheless, Sifuna defended himself by stating that it was not his responsibility to accompany the president everywhere he went.

The legislator stated that the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding does not include any provision mandating his inclusion in the president's motorcade.

“I learned from the news that Senator Sifuna managed to avoid attending the president’s meetings in Nairobi. The Memorandum of Understanding does not specify anywhere that I am required to accompany the president during his developmental visits. Nowhere is it stated that a senator elected under UDA or any other individual should shadow my party leader. Each person needs to remain within their designated role. Due to the numerous meetings I’ve participated in, I won’t be seeking reelection,” explained Senator Sifuna.
