ABUJA The European Union in Nigeria has provided a donation of €46 million to support the "Sustainable Social Protection System in Nigeria" program.
This disclosure occurred during the program’s unveiling at the United Nations House in Abuja.
The initiative program developed by the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning (FMBEP) along with the European Union (EU) aims at addressing deficiencies within the national Social Protection Register to enhance its effectiveness as a strategic instrument for planning.
The initiative set to commence first in the states of Abia, Benue, Oyo, and Sokoto over a span of three years seeks to improve the system’s ability to respond effectively at both federal and state levels when facing shocks.
In partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has pledged support for social protection initiatives in Nigeria. They aim to achieve this through offering policy advice, designing programs, and delivering aid directly to vulnerable populations. The implementation of these efforts across Nigeria will involve cooperation with both the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as well as the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
